Poll ideas wanted
Posted by Rene Schweitzer on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 1:37 PM
Most of you regulars know that I post a new poll every Friday, and have been doing so for 1.5 years. I'd like to hear YOUR ideas or suggestions for future polls. Do you have a question you'd like me to ask? You can email me directly at rschweitzer@kalmbach.com

Also, do you think continuing a weekly poll is a good idea? Should I try it less often, say twice per month? Comments are welcome.

Rene,

Your polls, and others, have contributed greatly to the lexicon of learning as well as debate here in the forums. I would, however, for your benefit (i.e. in having ro come up with one weekly) do it twice monthly.

Thanks for all you do![bow]

Rene;

I think what you have been doing is pretty good and as Joe says they defintitely add to things. As far as timing is concerned it seems to be working fine as it is , however even the most imaginitive person can run out of ideas.

I had an idea of posting a photo of a railway station every few weeks and see if any one can identify it, as clues are given out as it goes along. These stations I have in mind are nearly all in Europe and I have taken photographs of them in my travels and no one would really have much advantage over the others. Unfortunately I have two problems with that. One I cannot insert photos at the moment, as i'm not quite set up for it but I could send them to you for insertion.

The other is my scanner is cactus at the moment, but i will try to photograph one with my digital camera and send it to you and see how it turns out.

The first set of clues "very unusual site for this railway station on a famous waterway.

Photo coming to you in a day or so, along with the answer

Regards

Ian

Hey Rene,
I like the idea of say twice monthly. Gives a bit better chance for more responses. Here's one to post....Do you model in city miles or country miles? Groan...I know I know but look at the time of this post. Just worked a fifteen hour day....better get some sleep. Later eh...Brian.

Rene,

The weekly polls seem to be working out just fine. They stimulate a great deal of participation in the forum that might not otherwise take place. I wouldn't change a thing except to encourage more forum members to post their own poll questions occasionally.

Ian,

An interesting idea. I'm up for giving it a try. I have limited options for photos, but I can set it up as an "article" and link to it here in the forum. Folks could post their guesses in the forum as we go along. I look forward to getting a photo, and if anyone else has a submission, please let me know.

I just figured your the Queen of polls. I think they are good, they keep alittle action going. I've told many folks about this forum but some folks have a "home" forum per say. I stop by mainly to keep up on whats happening and always looking for and hoping for a New GRR in Nebraska.
I think you do a fine job and its nice just to be able to chat with you once and awhile.
I think photos really help draw folks. Thats what got me hooked on the puter.
My main desire is for GRYs mag to have a "Great GRR issue, maybe every five years. I know its the price and amount of folks who will be it.

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

rene your polls give us something to chat about maybe we could have polls asking what part of modeling we are strongest at giving all of us an idea who to email when we have a question or a problem jmozz
