Thanks Bob. The B&O reefer is a standard USAT one just weathered.

I have 3 overtons cars that I did this way but will often run the combine alone in caboose fashion (done prototypically on small railroads).

I stuck the vinyl lettering I printed right over the old lettering, sizing it to a similar size. There was a logo on the lower panel that I just painted over. I usually use the vinyl for building signs so I did spray clear coat it but it was probably unneccessary in this case since my cars don't sit out in the weather.

The vinyl is basically bumper sticker material and is very sticky and sturdy. I got mine (and decal paper) from this ebay seller - http://tinyurl.com/36zloh

Brian, a couple of questions if I may.  Is it only the combine that you changed the lettering on or both it and the B&O boxcar.  Did you only change the name on the top of the combine or the other lettering also?  I take it you applied the vinyl directly over the old lettering?  Do you need to spray a clear coat over the vinyl to protect it?  Does the vinyl stay on as well as a decal?

Looks great by the way.

Bob

Kevin uses a heavy duty degreaser you just have to be careful not to remove too much paint with the lettering.

I made new road names with my overton cars with self adhesive inkjet vinyl. I matched the color as close as possible then blended it in with matching paint. I brought one to a club meet and no one noticed until I pointed it out when we were discussing decals.

A little help if you can. I want to remove coach names from Backmann Jackson Sharp coaches my reason for doing this is that i wish to have more coaches with the names of the W.P & Y. R, as bachmann are not producing any new ones for a couple of years. If possable I do not want to have to paint coaches. I will be greatfull of any advice.
