 Indeed. The Venice-Simplon OE is alive and doing well.  It is a luxury train and the discontinued remnant just an ordinary affair it seems.

I think the original information was provided by a travel bureau.   Smile,Wink, & Grin

The Paris-Istanbul Orient Express has not run in decades.  What the writer is bemoaning is the discontinuance of the final remnant of the Orient Express, which was a Strasbourg-Vienna overnight run.  The privately operated Venice-Simplon Orient Express is still running.

According to the below link, today is the last run of the Orient Express, from Paris to Instanbul.  I always had the ambition of taking that route after the wife retires. Saddness, as another historic passenger train bites the dust.
