If your intention is to raise the train table while maintaining it level, you will need a minimum of four hoist lines and nine sheaves. Hoisting will be done by pulling ONE main line, and that line should also include provision for a counterweight.
When in the lowered position, the train table should rest on solid support: legs (may be designed to fold,) saw horses, shelf brackets or any combination of the above. Trying to operate while the table is swinging from the hoist lines will be a bear. The simple act of throwing the points of a turnout will be equivalent to 2.5 on the Richter scale - and heaven forfend if somebody hip-checks the table...

Hello all,
I am new here. What my 7 year old son and I are trying to do is set up a train table that when we are not using it can be raised up to the ceiling. I imaging that we will need at least 2 pulleys and tie downs. Has anyone else done this that can give me some advice on what to do and not to do?
Thank you,
George
