“Sculpt your own realistic figures.” (page 46) Ray: I have been to several “instructional sites” trying to learn how to “make my own people.” After being inundated with entirely too much information (one site I went to and printed is thicker than most Army Field Manuals). My attempts look like disasters left over from cheap imitations of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Balloons. Your short and sweet approach (at least in text form) has me wanting to try again. I will be waiting at the mail box for the next two issues. My wife thanks you for “rekindling the fire.”
“Adventures in Anaheim” (page 52) Dave: my wife grew up just beyond the shadow of the “Magic Kingdom” (Sierra Madre) and wants to know if you have a photo account and if you are willing to share? She would especially like to see more of “The Temple of Doom”. My daughter (who received proposal of marriage and said “yes” on the bridge in front of the castle) wants to see more as well. As for myself, I would like to see more of the Big Thunder Mountain. An example of truly excellent craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing.
“Build a cam-truck” (page 62) Michael, Your solution is so simple, it is sweet. I cannot begin to account for all the Styrofoam I’ve sliced up to “ballast” the camera in small gondolas.

Yes, it is a good issue. Trying to read through Chris Walas's MLS figure making class can get a little tedious in its current format. Ray's condensation of that is a big plus. I may give it a try someday.

My major gripe with GR - the "Regional Gardening Reports" has one gotten worse with 3 or four reports from Cullyfornia and a token report from Arizonia or the Mid-West. Let's just rename it "Gardening Reports from People I Know".

The head is gray, hands don't work , back is weak, legs give out, eyes are gone, money go's and my wife still love's Me.
Dunno' why I got mine early this month, because I'm usually one of the last to get it . Guys in Sweden get their's before me even though I'm just 10 miles from Capitol Hill. It maybe because my subscription is renewed this time of year.
Mine showed up yesterday, in Kalamzoo, Michigan. I looked through it but I didn't have time to read anything yet. I'll get to it tonight. It does look like it has a lot of interesting stuff in it this month. Unfortuanately that means I'll ready it all tonight and tomorrow and not have anything for the next several days.

It is obvious that Dave did on his "mini-Disney". I Googled the name of his GRR and found his site. Awsum pics out there and snappy little vid.
My issue showed up in the mail yesterday, it does have a lot of good articles. What caught my eye is Marc Horovitz' article "Building a Live Steamer in Gauge 3." Live Steam - Scratchbuilt - Gauge 3? Yeehaw! I have considered scratchbuilding a Gauge 1 live steamer, but I have some other projects that need to be finished first. Anyway, the article was great and the locomotive turned out very nice!

I havent gotten my issue yet but I'll be sure to read Rays article, I want to add some custom figures around the layout.

I got mine a few days ago, and finally sat down to read it. The article on trimming the dwarf alberta spruce trees is excellent and timed perfectly! I have one of these out front that needs some help. Using the techniques suggested, I will attempt to modify this tree!
The article about plowing snow was interesting, but not really applicable. Here, when we plow snow, we always let our trains sit outside so that when they hit the track, they do not melt the snow, which then freezes. I never considered running live steam in the snow, since it is usually too cold outside and the butane doesn't gassify. Using track power, we have had a lot of good luck plowing up to 12 inches of snow. I'm not kidding!! The train did burrow under the snow. But there were a lot of good ideas, like clearing the line of sticks and other debris before the storm hits.
I liked the Disney article as well. A fun layout, but some very serious modeling! I had to do a double take when looking at the locomotives to realize I was not looking at stock Hartland or Kalamazoo trains.

The UK postal dispute didn't make a great deal of difference in this part of England. I received a small parcel of metal wheels from a friend in the States the other day which only took just over a week to arrive.

addendum: 12 No. I sent a parcel from the UK lat Wednesday to Indonesia. It arrived yesterday (just one week to get there). Postal strike made no difference it seems.
