Was down at Watts Train Shop today, Dave had some of the current production Euro starter sets, new price is $399.00, they looked the same as the last sets from the original LGB. He does have a huge collection in right now with the limited edition LGB Aster electric engines, several Mikados including the green southern, along with loads of Moguls, cars, ect, both Euro and American. Excellent stock of F units to. Was a great day and our god child had a blast in there with all the Brio and Thomas the Tank stuff. I think pushing the prince to $400 for a starter set will cost them sales to Lionel which has quite a few nice starter sets in below $300 with a diecast engine. Hope it works out for Marklin. Cheers Mike

Since LGB production moved to china and/or hungary some people have complained about plastic quality and some paint problems.
The Hungary stuff seems ok.

Thank you vsmith & ttrigg for your responses.
Yes, Marklin is good from what I hear. The local hobby shop around here doesn't have much in the way of any L.G.B. stuff, so I have checked the Walthers online catalogue and they have a good L.G.B. selection so far. Think I will give them a call. Thanks once again.
Mark.
Marklin has always been top notch in quality. I began purchasing Marklin products in 1973 (HO and N (1984?)) I have an N “schnelzug” that took the “quick trip down” from 53 inch tall layout several (make that MANY) had to replace the couplers and horns (due to the falls) several times but it still will out pull anything else I have in N, and that’s after 25 years. If they bring only half their previous quality into large scale, everyone will be very pleased. Marklin has been at the upper end of price, but you get what you pay for.

ONEHAGGIS But what about the quality??
But what about the quality??
Marklin has always been "top shelf" (the best) quality, from what I've read from Europe, the new LGB is also top shelf stuff. Comes down to if you can afford it, and if you can find it.
Have fun with your trains
vsmith "Buy it Now" for %^&^$ dollars + shipping!!!!! I can get it online from a shop for only $48!!!!
I second that motion! Most of the stuff I would be interested the “Buy It Now” is more than at my LHS! And he does not charge shipping!
I havent even seen any new LGB/Marklin. I know they supposedly are still shipping stuff here, but it hasnt shown up at any of the closest shops near me, they are still selling NOS items.
If you can find something on Evilbay thats actually affordable thats a good option, but as far as I'm concerned, Forget Ebay! They are gouging prices something ridiculus, especially for LGB. Place is being overrun with Ebay Stores and their overpriced "Buy It Now" items. Saw a HLW Mack "Buy it Now" for $84 %^&^$ dollars + shipping!!!!! I can get it online from a shop for only $48!!!! Just Ludicrous!!!
I'm curious obout the "new" L.G.B. from Marklin that is now on the market. Has anyone here bought any of the new stuff yet? is the quality still there? Is it worth the money? Or is a person better off just buying the "old" stuff whether it's N.O.S. or used of off E-bay?
