Chuff Pipe installed in my Aristo LS Mikado
Posted by Jerry Barnes on Monday, September 21, 2009 9:12 PM

I got my Summerlands Chuffer today from NGT Models. They make them for many types

of live steam locomotives, this is for my Aristo LS Mikado. It was an easy install, just split a

piece of 1/4" i.d. K&S tubing, bend it out a little so it fits tightly over the nut and screw it in.

So How does it sound? Looks really neat and they make one for the Ruby....

Sound was real good. I made a new chimney with thinner tubing, gained about 2mm around the chuffer, so hoping for a better draft. Had to light it with the chimney/stack off, then once warmed up put it on and it ran fine after that. So still a bit of developing for the Mikado chuffer.

Here's a video of my run, after the chimney alteration. Fired right up and ran

great, so I guess improving the draft is what it needed. Summerlands had no

experience with the Aristo Mikado and are still developing it a bit. Video here:

You get a good overall view of my layout also, outer loop is about 135'.

Jerry - Very nice looking layout. The Mikado chuffing was barely audible over top of the much louder water gurgling sounds. In fact, I was thinking of copying your audio and playing it back at night to relax me... :-) But seriously, as the Mikado passes on the near side of the loop, one can hear a rapid chuff sound for a few moments. Looks like you got it right.
