Trains that deliver high octane fuel for human consumption
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, May 17, 2004 2:46 AM
Hi guys,
I mentioned a beer train on another topic and Captain C came on with an idea for carrying bottled beer. The people I know use any old freight car for delivering beer to people around the layout, if it holds a botle/can it gets used. What do you do, I've heard of water towers being used for malt whisky, does anyone else have novel ways of getting essential supplies around their set ups?
Cheers,
Kim

Kimbrit,
Nothing yet....but you have me thinking. We have a restaurant here in Winnipeg called the "Sushi Train". A large scale train runs from the kitchen out to the patrons loaded with sushi! Hence the name. Cool way to run a restaurant. Works so well that they added a second restaurant. Later eh...Brian.

What a great idea!

Although I would be concerned if someone dropped a peice onto the rails and shorted out the system or having a train derailed by a Cailfornia Roll[;)]

We only have a floating sushi bar here, with little boats that carry the plates around.[:D]

As for the topic Bachmann logcars are just about the right size for longneck beer bottles, just need to attach a bottle opener to the caboose![:p]

   Have fun with your trains

With all this talk about hauling cars of alcohol, if they derail or have a head on collision is that considered alcohol abuse?[:o)][:D]

That awsome, I remember going to a McDonalds in california one time that had a G scale train layout running around the whole place.

It never did anything with the food though, it was just for looking, if I remember correctly it was a pretty cool layout too. [8D]

Make sure the beer isn't opened, I guessing with my experence of drinking beer while cutting grass on my tractor it would go flat[V]

Isn't it riding railkings or something like that markets their tank cars for hauling brew?

My dog would definatly be chasing my trian if he new beer was aboard[:D]

macguy,
I remember seeing pictures of the McDonalds you mentioned. It may have been the installer advertising it. One of the old MD's here in Wpg. had a caboose attached to it. This was for kids to sit in. The restaurant rebuilt down the street and now it is still vacant. Anybody need a caboose with one end missing??? Ooooops...won't fit on our track. Later eh...Brian.

Hi Matt, yes they advertise those huge 1" ride on railcars that will probably hold several gallons! If I had one of those she would never get me back in the house. Need one hell of a garden to operate them though.
With all these ideas I reckon you could get a full garden meal going with a long train. Loco & tender + extra tender for a few drinks, couple of tank cars with different brews, 3 logcars for long neck bottles, couple of gons with triangular sandwiches and coal cars for chips and dips and a flat or two for pretzels. I think the sushi would have to go in a snow plow at the front of the train!.
Nice one guys,
Cheers,
Kim

Matt

I have been working on this problem for some time (just about as long as I have been in model railways) and haven't come up with a suitable idea yet. We too have a Sushi train both at Mooloolaba here on the Sunshine Coast and at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. The Macca's one is in California somewhere, it is LGB and is featured in their catalogue (San Diego I think). I have the details somewhere and I will fmnd them and let you all know exactly where it is. I am fairly certain that is is elevated.

What I envidage is my Stainz pulling a gondola or two wich will carry either a couple of cans or a few glasses of wine or even two mixed drinks around the swimming pool. Still working on it.
