RR Tracks Software
Posted by bryanfarris on Monday, May 10, 2004 6:19 PM
Looking for some help with RR Tracks Software. I have a 1.6 MHZ computer with operating system is XP with all patches. GeForce 3 graphic card. I open the software, open a layout, scroll or resize window and the window gets real fuzzy ( I know I know, that is not real descriptive). Then the computer locks, then I must reboot. I tried changing resolution to help, but it did not help. I unistalled software, and reinstalled, twice. Opened existing layout, creating new layout, doesnt matter same result.

I sent a email to RR Tracks, but they must be busy, only one reply email. Would love to get this program working before the 30 day return policy gets here.

any ideas??

Bryan

Hi, and Welcome.
All the CAD or other programs I have tried there is no learning curve. Like drag and drop for me is more like it. I have 2 thumbs when it comes to these programs.

bryan, check the software's hardware requirements, processor speed for one. most computers today are over 1ghz. Your processor might not be even able to keep up with the graphics card. Check the ram if you have 128 mb of ram you might be o.k. agin check the software's requirements.

I'm running my copy of RR-Track on a 5 year old system that is far less horsepower than you have with no problems. You mentioned that your XP had all of the patches. How about the drivers for the GE Force 3. The symptoms you describe sound more like a graphics driver problem than an XP problem. The GE Force card is a great game card but if you got it when it was new, the software drivers may not have been fully checked out for more mundane type of graphics.

Check their website. I'll bet there have been several updates since you bought it. They will have instructions on how to download and install the updates.

Hi guys,
I have tried the free versions and did not care for them. I found it more work to do than going outside and throwing down the track in the yard to see what it looks like. For me reality is very much different than what I see on my screen. If you enjoy track planning via the programs then great, go for it. Think I'll stick to "look and see". Later eh...Brian.

Well after no help from the makers of RR Tracks, I have returned the product. I can say that the problem was with the graphic card, and yes all updates were applied. I could have put it on the wifes computer, but decided to return the product after the lack of customer support form the maker of the software. $99.00 here it is make it work attitude does not sit well with me.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. Definitely a video card/driver issue. I've run RR Track on lots of machines, no problem. I've had problems with the GEForce cards myself. The software is relatively inexpensive, so I sort of can't blame them. I assume they told you to try a different video card. I use the software and like it.

Regards, Greg
