Rex - A great idea - Why didn't I think of that. I will give it a whirl. Thanks, Shu

Shu,
I use the styrofoam packing the loco came in. It splits in half so you can have it either right side up or upsidedown. For the locos that don't have the original packing I use the pillow method as well although washing a pillow case is a new twist that I'm going to give a go.

Sounds good to me Rob - Sometimes the best answer is a simple one - I'll give it a try. I was originally going to make a rack out of wood but I like the pillow idea. I hope she doesn't figure out why there's grease on her pillow....shhhhh (our secret) - Shu
Howdy Shu; I use an old pillow and pillow case. When the pillow case gets dirty I throw it in the wash with my work cloths; works good for me.
Hope it helps, Rob
In HO and O scales there are foam cradles available, I haven't seen any in large scale, but then I haven't looked for them either.
It wouldn't be very difficult to make one, I would try to find some foam, like camper pad, probably 1 1/2- 2" thickbend it into U shape to fit your locomotive, or cars that you would be working on, then measure the OUTSIDE width and depth of it and make a frame out of plywood to give it more strength. The HO and O versions are just foam, but with the larger size and heavier weight of Large scale, the extra strength would be a good Idea.

Has anyone come up with a fixture / jig to safely hold the Big Haulers loco inverted (belly up) for maintenance purposes. I have some difficulty in simply picking it up without damage to the finer detail not to mention lying it down or propping it up for lubrication or other maint issues. I was going to build a simple jig but then thought I had better ask around first. Thanks - Shu
