I finally got a chance to visit Home Depot today. The wording on the bag is, "Mortar Mix -- High Strength Repair Mortar". I could not find a product number or anything else more specific.

I've gotten it from both Lowe's and Home Depot. I don't have a bag here right now, but I'll check at HD later and see if there is some more specific identifier, such as a product number.

David,

I bought Rapid Set mortar mix but it doesn't work too well with smooth river rock.  Also you have to be careful and not mix it too thin or it will give you flat spots from your mold.  Since I wanted the river rock look I ended up doing the casting per Ray's directions with a fairly stiff mix and then glueing the rocks back on that didn't stay stuck to the mortar.

Rapid Set "High Strength" Mortar
Posted by StarDust39 on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 2:10 PM

In the April 2009 issue of GRR, Ray R. Dunakin III showed us how to build walls made of stone. In the article he mentioned Rapid Set "high strength" mortar. At Lowes today, I was not able to find exactly that, nor could I find it on the Rapid Set web site. Does anyone know exactly the product to which he was referring?

Thanks,
David
