Error in build a turnout article: June 2009 issue
Posted by Rene Schweitzer on Monday, May 11, 2009 1:51 PM

In Steve Monson's article on building switches in the June 2009
issue, there was an error on page 47. In the table called "Rail
lengths (inches)," the entry for #5 closure/point rails should read
"16 3/4."  We regret this error and any inconvenience it may have
caused.

I'm going to try to build my first turnouts and this article is a great start. One question. My 1:20.3 logging railroad has AMS code 250 Flextrackand the plans call for code 332. Is there a good resource for converting the plans or are there code 250 versions available?

Any feedback is welcome.

The foot and head widths (which are the critical dimensions, not the height) tend to be the same (or very close) on code 332 and code 250 rail. Given that, a switch built with code-250 rail can be built in the same way as code 332 rail, as described in the article.
