I finished up (except for weathering) my bashing two Pacifcs into a Challenger. Was a challenging job(no pun intended-well sorta!). I had to change my plans some, as I went along, but it all worked out.
I numbered it 3988, for something different. Made the front herald also, printed on ink jet vinyl paper.

The engine is 32" long and the tender is 18". My wife cut the large vinyl lettering with her cutter, she used to have a sign biz out of the house. I moved the center wheel of the Pacific drive wheels to the back, so I could have the long rods that a Challenger has. I pieced in some brass to lengthen the plastic rods that came with the old Pacific drives I used. I put the motor for the front drive unit on top of the axle housing and used some Plastruct gears to connect it to the axle drive.
The Centipede side frames are made up of 3 layers of plastic. I made masters for the bearing covers and cast them out of Smooth-on plastic. The front tender truck is a USA Big Boy truck. I embossed the rivet pattern onto some thin copper craft foil, using a pounce wheel.
