Marc Horovitz to give seminar in Kansas

I hope you can come next year also Marty.  I was only there because I happen to be working in the area on the BNSF for a few weeks (I go home this Friday), and the company paid for it all.  Even so, I had to miss a few hours in the middle due to work issues, but I got most of it in anyway.  It's worth coming to even though it wasn't as big as some of the events that happen nationaly, but I like the smaller venues as I can get a chance to speak with the lecturers on an individual basis.  Wichita and surrounding area is very nice (and clean like Canada!) so I'm sure a weekend here won't be boring or you at all. 

 Lots of good railfanning here!  Just today I saw some warbonnet Santa Fe's, and a FerroMex train. This is a very busy rail junction!

The Clinic went great on Saturday.  The events started with Marc visiting the M&M RR of Manfred and Millie Hein, in Newton, KS, the HedgeApple-RioGram of Jim Carter, in Wichita, and the L&M RR of David and Lana McClain, in Wichita on Friday.

 Saturday, Marc was the keynote speaker.

 

And several of us helped in presenting the clinics mentioned above.

Here I am in Mulvane Kansas. Not the most exciting place in the world, but charming in it’s own way. It’s one of those places where people are nice to you because that is the way they are. And yeah, its cold.

I got a chance to go to Garden gizmos. Claudia, the owner, is truly dedicated to the hobby and a wonderful person. When in the Wichita area be sure to stop in, the store gets from me an A+. Thanks for setting all this up Claudia!

M and M railway set up at the expo for our viewing pleasure. it’s run by a great couple, Manfred and Millie, that are truly passionate about the hobby and willing to share. All of the folks at the show know, I mean really KNOW their garden railway stuff. I learned more in 30 minutes talking to some of these people than in 5 years of reading books and looking on the internet. Thanks also to Lamont who brought some excellent models for use to look at, that man has some talent!

Now for the hero of the day, Marc. This man has knowledge of garden railways that is just frightening. Because of his hard work over the years we have a top quality magazine and an excellent forum by which all modelers can come together for the greater good. He is a great man to talk with and willing to share his knowledge freely. I was very fortunate to get the chance to speak with him, even if only for a short time.

The seminar is this Saturday, Feb 28,2009 from 9am-6pm at the Wichita Independant Business Association (WIBA). The address is 445 N Waco, Wichita, KS.  Its the Southwest corner of Central and Waco.

 Garden Railways Seminar -- Marc Horovitz, founder and editor of Garden Railways magazine, will be the main speaker at the 2008 Garden Railways Seminar on Feb. 28 in Wichita. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Wichita Independent Business Association, 445 N. Waco. It's sponsored by Garden Railway Gizmos, a garden railroading shop at 1425 N. Broadway.

The seminar will cover garden railroading topics including landscaping with plants and trees, layout and design, electric- and steam- powered trains, controllers, tunnels and trestles. Displays of modular layouts and vendors will provide hands-on, interactive experiences for learning about the hobby.

Other presentations during the event will be provided by the Wichita Area Garden Railway Society, a Sedgwick County master gardener, the Bonsai Club and Garden Railway Gizmos.
