John thanks again. I was going to do it with the load across the car - not lengthwise as you have done. I'll look at that
Bob
Hello--I too have done the pulpwood load "thing" being a Maine Central fan and this was much of its livelyhood. I have cut "logs" to fit across the width of USA & Aristo bulkhead flats, but I split them and stacked then on the cars, gluing occassionaly. Anyone familiar with early Ro/USA bulkhead loads know they offered a very realistic load consisting of a styro block and individually cut and glued logs. (Must have been very labor intensive to produce!) These loads/cars pop up once in a while on eBay; that's where I obtained mine. LGB still offers a similar looking bulkhead with pulp load that is done in plastic.
I like what you did with the "gon"; I might try that.

LOGS ARE GLUED TOGETHER AND THERE'S A BLOCK OF STYROFOAM IN THE MIDDLE TO REDUCE WEIGHT. (FOR BOB'S INQUEST)
