Be sure to reinforce the plywood with some stringers, on my new layout, which is 4 1/2' x 6 1/2' feet, I used 1x3s to keep the weight down I also built it on a base with castor wheels so it can be stored against the wall, the base is also used for box storage. I'l try to get some updated pictures this weekend.

the lay out on the first page of this forum i printed out 6 by 7-4 . I think i can go 6 by 8 that you drew up . this will take a while , I need saw horses to put my plywood on in the room, thanks it's a small start again . thanks to those who replyed to the fourm . i only get the house on july 30th . Sorry to hear that things aren't going so well for you. But I'm glad that you've found a way around the problem. And I'm really glad that you'll still be able to stay in model railroading, once the bug bites ya, you don't get over it.

Well apartment living is not working out , people making noise all hours day and night , so i bid on a house in a 55 and older housing develoment not much land to it ,but i can make a small railroad in one of the bed rooms , i'll be moving by the middle of next month . I'll have room to make a small L shape RR in the room . more later ben
I feel your pain. We had an elaborate layout at our last house and true to form the new owner did not want the trains. We packed up the track and the buildings. The 20' coy pond and the water falls around the swimming pool stayed but the new owner bulldozed them. That hurt big time but what could we say.
Our current layout will have the same problem but that's life. At least we'll enjoy it while we live there. Trains will be with us forever as it gets in your blood. I hope you find a way to do something in your new place even if it has to be smaller.

As heartbreaking as it has been for you to see all those years of hard work and love go to someone who does not appreciate it, it's a lesson to the rest of us. We should all keep Ben's experience in mind as we invest in and expand our outdoor railroads. Someday we'll all probably have to leave our present house as we downsize and there's every reason to expect that the new owner will not want our railroad. The editor of GR's Miniscaping feature Don Parker recently wrote about having to tear up his RR because the new owner didn't want it. As a matter of fact, an outdoor RR may even be a negative to the selling process.
I suppose that a simple ground level RR running through the flower beds is O.K. because it's easy to just pull up the track, but one with elaborate waist-high roadbed or large and complicated rock work would be a no-no.
We've recently moved to a new home. But since we're retired and will probably only be here for a few years, all my plans for the new RR are being done with the idea that this should be kept very simple with as little impact on the appearance of the back yard as possible.

the buyers of the house didn't want the out side track so we sold it . and all the bridges and buildings. i gave 11 big fish from my pond away . Their is still a few in the pond . they are going to fill it in the way i under stand . this breaks my heart after all the years i had it . but life goes on . i' still hope i can get rid of the rest of the fish before settlement of the house . later Ben

well i am completly moved and in my apartment and this past week my things i could not take along ,trains and some other thing were sold, also my house was sold . also thanks for the e-mails to me . I will stop by here from time to time , BEN

I'll split 50-50 if you can figure out how I can UPS a half cup of coffee and keep it warm. Besides slower looks more realistic.
You win the bet. I try to run trains on the Portable just short of stalling speed. Besides both tracks are on one powerpack so the trains tend to run slow anyways, which is fine with me.
PS do I get a cut if there was any $$ involved ?
Son-in-Law asks "With that much weight going around in such a tight circle the thing should wobble enough so that it topples to the floor." I said it is too slow to wobble. Who's correct?

Hi Tom yeah I want to bring the pizza plus the micro since its a "all scale" show now. Shad said OK so it will be coming again PS the secret project is proceesing well, been a little sidetracked by finishing the micro, look for pictures you know where soon.

Thanks but it'd never sell, too few doing it, the funny thing is that plan was based on an N gauge Micro I found online.
