You can get the same stuff at any local theater store.
That's where our FD got their's when I was still on the Dept.

I have tried just about everything over the years but finally just settled on good grade uncented lamp oil, Bill
anytime you add flamable fluid to a combustable fluid you create a flamable liquid solution.
Oil is combustable, Gasoline is flamable.
Oil and Gasoline for two cycle engines is a flamable solution.
Hi, as previously advised the most effective smoke stuff is the stuff that the fIre Service use in their smoke generators for training. it has to be cheap to use it in the quantaties they use it and has to be very effective to get the "white Out" they require.
It gets sustantially diluted for stage shows, otherwise you woul'nt see anything after a few minutes, and the price of it doubles.
Ask at your local Fire Service training department where you can get some. They propably use it by the gallon so take your own small container.
If you knocked on their door at the right time and dont get greedy over how much you want they may even fill your small container for free.

We have a blower driven smoke generator in an IRS building fire scene on our HO scale club layout and have found that plain mineral oil available from most drug stores works just as well as commercial smoke fluid. There was a lot of discussion here and on the My Large Scale forum about smoke fluid a couple of years ago, which you may be able to find through the search function.
Lighter fluid seems to me like a sure-fire way to burn up a locomotive. I'd never use anything that flammable, even mixed with something else.

Thanks for the warning, and thanks to all for your suggestions. All of my engines seem to produce smoke running in my backyard but the LGB oil I bought doesn't produce as much as the LGB oil that was supplied with a Forney..about enough for two charges, then gone. I think I'll try lampoil and see what happens.
As far as warranties are concerned, here in the US LGB no longer has parts and cannot fix anything anyway. I was warned not to push engines and damage gears or let my grandsons create any train wrecks because even the wholesalers can't get any parts to fix anything.
I have 4 LGB engines and one Bachmann, and they all seem to smoke about the same.
Thanks again for the suggestions.
Lamp oil works just fine in my aristos
Hi Just remember any junk you use will invalidate the warranty, Ask your local supplier what he/she thinks is best. Have you confirmed that snoke generator is working 100% are you using the right amout of power to make it smoke. low speeds mean it will not smoke to its full capacity
Age is only a state of mind, keep the mind active and enjoy life
Try gscalemad.co.uk website. They have top tips and I think #4 is the one for making smoke oil.

barclaysierraAny suggestions on a cheap smoke oil mixture? I got a very small amount in a bottle with a new LGB engine, but the LGB stuff I bought doesn't work nearly as well. I've heard 1/2 lamp oil and 1/2 charcoal lighter fluid works well. Any other suggestions?

Sounds like a good way to set your loco on fire.
Looks for JT's Mega Steam. Its supposed to be the best.
