The first MTH "Gauge One" catalog (2002) and the second (2003) listed only Dash-8s with twin motors, ProtoSound2, and DCS digital control.
In 2004 the catalog listed both the Powered/Sound version and Dummy. The price spread between the two versions was $300.
The 2005 Catalog continued to list both Powered and Dummy but the price spread has shunk to only $200. (only $200 extra for two motors, sound, and digital control)
No catalog was issued in 2006, but, the 2007 "Gauge One" catatalog no longer listed a Dummy unit for the Dash-8s.
I do not see how MTH could make money with the Dummys, I have two (CSX and NS). They look the same as the powered units except for the cab number, have pickups, full lighting, and a light on/off switch.

Thanks Joe, I'll email straight away.
I understand now why they are so scarce.
Regards,
Graeme
I believe the reason they are so hard to find is that they were removed from production list by MTH. I think you can find the Santa fe or CSX version at Just Trains. I see a lot of dealers listing them, but when I call, they say they're all sold out? Kirt should have them, Joe
G'day all and this is my first time here.
I'm trying to purchase an MTH Dash 8 Non powered unit(code 70-2018-3 or any variance) to run as a battery carrier for my garden railroad locomotives but can't find one anywhere. I purchased one from G Scale Junction about twelve months ago but now they all seem to have vanished. The dash 8 made an ideal battery carrier and I wish to purchase another one. Does anyone know where they are hiding.
