What was "under the tree"?
Posted by ttrigg on Monday, December 29, 2008 8:18 PM

Haven't heard what was under anyone else's tree so far. I think the wife made out better than I did. I got a HLW Goose, she picked up from evilbay, from one of you guys, I think.

Also got a herd of heifers, a horse drawn fire wagon, an old gasoline delivery truck, that she picked up from a gargage sale for $2.00 still in the box.

She got a new two-pound ball of fur and bark. He has a value equivalent to a trio of K27's (including shipping, tax and handling)

If we get warmer weather this weekend I'll be out running it around a bit. Will post a pic or two then.

Sounds like a decent haul there, Tom.

I set up a wiggling loop of Bachmann track for the wife's Christmas train -

I let my wife know about some HLW specials and I found a couple of new Birneys under the tree. They'll be undergoing much detailing in the future -

nothing special pretty much same as last year, Bmann Durango & Silverton 4-6-0 #177 with a D&S Boxcar & Coach on a LGB R2 loop around the tree. I dressed the cars & tender up a little with silver trucks & wheels. I wanted to do RGS but my RGS #25 annie is still cabless waiting to get it painted & numbered Dead

Oh yeah had my Bmann K27 up on the fireplace mantle with a green LGB stockcar and red drovers caboose put some little reindeer in the stockcar and a lil santa figure with some mini gifts in the baggage section of the caboose Tongue

ill have to see if my folks or my sister got any pictures of any of it I only had like a hour of sleep, got off work at 8am and home by 9 slept till just after 10 when sis her fiancee and there kids came over to open gifts. I miss being a kid I want some toys all I ever get is clothes lol!

Brian, that station looks suspiciously like the one that won the competition at York!

Only thing under my train tree was a new 15 amp power pac & controller!

Well the tree started out with an On30 Bachmann X-mas train painted by Terry Redlin.  My son loved it and it ran almost steady for a month.  My X-mas train was put up in order to make way for the train my son recieved from the babysitter.  He got a second hand New Bright G Scale Great Northern 2-6-2 Steamer.  This train moves too fast for me even on low speed but he loves it, that is all that matters.  Unfortunatly some of the track has taken dammage over the years of the previous owners use and the train derails constantly.  I am on the search for some new track but this being the first G-scale in this house I dont know much about where to go and what to get.

The best place to find plastic track is eBay. You'll find both Bachmann and NewBright. Be sure to get the right kind as they are not compatible due to the connectors being on the opposite sides.

Thanks for the reply Brian.  I dont know if you ment the rails being plastic or just the ties but these tracks are tin with plastic ties.  They are not the most durable thing I have ever seen but the train gets its power from the rails.  The tender has a couple of brushes that contact the rails and that is the power pickup for the engine.  I dont really like the setup but this is a toy train and not a scale model.  He loves it and right now it is on a shelf in his room.  He would started to cry when I put it in a box, so I set it and its cars on his shelf and he is happy now :).  I will check out the e-bay place for some rails.

It sounds like you have regular Bachmann track (like I have around my tree in the above pic). I did not realize New Bright made anything track powered or made metal track. You can find Bachmann metal track on eBay usually for better prices that through on line or retail stores (but those are options too). Since your loco has metal wheels you could invest in some plain old brass track like AristoCraft's.

You've got no room to run anything anyway. The only thing of yours I seen ("completed") in action is the 22(?) inch "pizza" layout. Has there been any progress on the indoor layout? With all the rain in the past two weeks, I've got at least a month of "flood repairs" before I can run anything except the trolley line up to "Cheatu de Vic". Too many decorations to pull down last weekend to do any running but plan to do some this weekend. SWMBO has told me that I'm not allowed to take any photos until the vegetation recovers and begins to look good.

That's why I keep telling him to quit working at the workbench and start working on the benchwork.
