1st off, what do you mean by "Battery operated G scale"?
Are we talking about regular G offerings like Bachmann or Aristo craft converted to battery operation or are we talking New Bright/Scientific type battery toy train set?
Be that as it may, if we are talking about battery powered toy train sets, then finding the same plastic track that New Blight or Scientific sets come with is not hard to find on Ebay, but straight sections can be tougher to find.
Be aware, New Blight and Scientific track IS NOT interchangable, the joiners are on opposite sides. Chose one maker and stick with it.
Given that I would suggest Bachmann track for indoor use if its a battery powered train set and you cannot find the plastic stuff on Ebay, the Bachmann stuff always aeams to be available for cheap, so cheap I just dumped a bunch that I had for years into the recycling bin a couple years ago.
The advantange the Bachmann track has is that if you ever decide to add a track powered engine, your good to go after you clean the track off. Plastic wheels mean cleaning track regularly.
Bachmann track is OK for indoor use, outdoors its junk.
Have fun with your trains
As with other answers,I would use metal track not Bachmann as it will wear out in under 6 months. Look on E bay lots of track for sale on there, you will find LGB loads of it. Hope this helps

ICRRfanfortlifeIf indoor Bachman track will work fine. You nay be able to get good deals on Ebay. It is cheeper than other brands and many people sell it from starter sets when they use brass or stainless to run the trains on.

Except that plastic track is designed to use with plastic wheels on locos and rolling stock. Unless there is someone out there with experience to the contrary, I would not suggest it.

Wood or plastic will take a real beating from metal wheels on curves. The cheapest homemade track I've seen was made from wood boards cut to look like ties then slots cut in the ties for aluminum bar stock rails. I'll see if I can find where that was posted, I think it was someone down under.
