g scale train set at home depot
Posted by jimmydelv on Friday, November 21, 2008 4:00 PM

Has anyone purchased the north pole express g scale train set from home depot?  I did.For $39.95 it's a good deal. battery operated steam loco, tender, box car, flat car with rotating elf, caboose with figures that rise up and down as train moves. train plays 20 different Christmas tunes plus has a bell , chug and nice whistle sound that operate over and over between the Christmas songs. train also has a handheld remote for forward, stop and reverse. remote also has a sound off and on button. comes with over 20ft. of track. tender requires 6 "c" batteries and remote requires 1 9volt transistor battery. check it out at your local home depot store. nice train for kids and for under the Christmas tree.

Sounds like it either the new brite or scientific trains. Walmart, Lowes, target etc... also sells these.  Walmart here has it for 29 dollars. They are great for the kids to run on the track that way they dont destroy your good stuff.  They also make great kit bashes.  There is a great article in this months Garden RR mag about kitbashing one of these box cars.

After the holidays, I was thinking about putting an r/c rechargeable battery in the box car and putting a jack on the back of the tender and one on the front of the boxcar and put a tether with plugs on either end to connect the jacks so that i can use the rechargeable battery instead of constantly buying c batteries. Also might install a volume knob for the speaker as the sounds are pretty loud with no way to control it.  You're correct, the train I bought is manufactured by scientific ltd. Darn, wish I knew they had them at walmart. That's even more amazing to buy a train with so many features for $29.95 !

Toys-R-Us has a remote controlled version of the "Scientific" for $79, engine, tender, two cars, and caboose. Plastic rails include two turnouts with passing siding.

Vic:  Is that the RC version?  I've seen the standard several places for $29~$35.  I've only seen the RC version at T-R-U.  Which I think is cheap enough to look into for a RC bash.
