Water Tower
Posted by jhsimpson62 on Thursday, November 20, 2008 4:47 PM

Towards the end of the summer, I constructed the water tower shown here (page 9 & 10). I found the plans for an actual tower on the internet and scaled them to 1:20.3. Cut all the lumber from 1 x 12 ceader boards and purchased the spout and banding from Metzger's Creative Wood Werks. My First attempt at converting original plans to scale. A really fun project which looks good in the yard. My current project is a model of our old country church which I measured and converted to scale. Its on page 10 and 11. Jack

That is a good looking water tower. I am doing one, but in a more crude way.  Would you mind telling me three dimensions:  The heighth of the tank, the diameter of the tank, and the heighth of the base.

Thanks a lot.

Paul, I'll give you some numbers, but please consider that I am currently out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday so there are the top of my head. When I get home next week I'll be glad to check my notes and send you the exact numbers. True demension of the width was 24 ft which I converted to +/- 14" @ 1:20.3 and the believe the height of the base was also 14 " and the height of the tower was the same 14". I'll check them numbers and make required adjustments (if any) for you when I get home the begining of the week. Jack

Thanks Jack.  That is helpful for now.  It does look like each of those dimensions are about equal, so that sounds ok.  Let me know for sure next week and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I am still out of town. Will get back to you on where I found the plans. Looked for them on goggle last evening but couldn't find them. I think I still have them stored on the computer at home. Jack

Paul and Chris, Returned early due to expected snow in PA. As promised here are the answers to your questions. Plans were found at http://www.cwrr.com/Drawings/cnw-16070/cnw-16070-5-2.shtml They are actual size plans so must be converted to your scale. I use 1:20.3 which converted to: Tank height of 9.27" Base height of 9.45" and a Diameter of 14.187" inside demension. The base height doesnot include the height of the support beams (.69") or the floor joist (.295"). The plans say they are printable, but I was unable to do so. I worked mainly from the material list for sizes and made some rough skets from the plans to take to the workshop. Have fun! I found it to be so. Jack

Jack, thank you very much. I printed them out very easily.  Now I have a clear idea what size I need.  I went to the web site where you got the water tube, but didn't see anything there. I guess I need to look more.

I hope you don't have too much snow to shovel.

Paul, Here is the e-mail address for where I found the water tube. mcwwerks@sbcglobal.net He is just now in the process of making parts available to the public. Some where on his web site I found a statement that some parts were available for purchase. Send him an e-mail and tell him what you are looking for and he will get back to you with a price. We have an old ink jet printer and have problems with it all the time nothing new.Good luck with your project, will be looking for some pictures. Jack
