Yup, got the whole thing done in about 4 - 5days!
Faster work than the guys upstairs.

So just another day's worth of work on the RR. Looking good,
Dave
The head is gray, hands don't work , back is weak, legs give out, eyes are gone, money go's and my wife still love's Me.
Brian nice railroad. There is a gravel mining operation on the south side of Sacramento that also extracts enough gold to pay their operating costs. Just in case you want to diversify.

Thanks Paul. I picked up those lights on eBay real cheap years ago and had them in another part of the garden. They were not getting much use where they were so they got repurposed for the new layout. I'm really happy with how they look here.
Just let me know next time you're down this way and we'll run some trains.
I forgot to mention on the other forum, I really like the lighting. I especially like the height , as it seems to cover more area. Mine are close to the ground, but I think this lighting would be much better. More coverage.
I hope to see it for real sometime.
Paul
The layout is up and running. Still a bit of work to do like girders for the smaller bridge and building a passenger/freight depot but here are the pics-shots of the entire layout -shots of the gravel mine (complete with a Tonka crane truck like the one I had as a kid) -and off to deliver its load -and finally a shot of the layout in last night's snow.-Brian

Don't worry. I still have all 350 feet of the main layout. Once the leaves are done dropping it will be up and running again. This is just a little diversion.
Brian, It is really looking good, and the trees make it look very realistic. The Alberta spruce look good, and should do great out in the sun. I really have problems with them in the shade. I picked up on your boxwoods, and got three last spring. I trimmed them so they are round, and they have done really good in the mostly shady locations. I will have to come by again some time.

My main layout has quite a few buildings, vehicles and figures that are all about 1:24 scale. My 7/8's scale (1:13.7) trains don't look right running along side them. Plus all my 7/8's scale stuff is simple battery power. Just turn it on, set the speed and let 'er run. Its easier to keep track of on a small layout and I can run a loop to loop without any fancy wiring. I do plan on building a couple of structures that will be about 1:14 scale, almost twice the size of the 1:24 stuff.
Why 7/8s?
Thanks for the info. My Arborvitae have started seeding So i'm going to try planting some of the seed's. we have some brissel cone pine seedlings ( I think ) growing in the yard thanks to the bird's. But the main root is too long to transplant.
You're a funny guy, Dave!
Most of the trees are just your standard 1 gallon dwarf alberta spruce you can get at the home depot for $7 or less. I just picked up a few more for $4 each at end of season closeout. The get pruned and thinned out quite a bit before planting.
What type of tree's are you using? A lot of porgress for 2 day's Work.
Update - Initial planting is in and mulched and track is laid out ready to install (if I ever get done cleaning up all these leaves! ) A few pics - -Brian

Alot of work in one day, looks good, keep the picture's comming.
Someone is having entirely too much fun! Looks like you've got the grading done. Looking forward to more pix.
This is a little layout mostly for my 7/8's scale trains. It will be mostly plants with maybe 1 or 2 structures. Its in a sunnier, more open part of the yard so I can use a wider variety of plants I can't use on my main layout. The layout itself is a simple loop to loop folded in on itself with just two sidings. The main grade is a bit steep at 3-4% but the trains will be short, industrial types. The smaller inner loop is 8 foot diameter. All will be battery powered. The layout is mostly raised using Tufboard ladder. Pics of the progress - Planning - Turf removed with tractor and I invited the boys of the train club over to learn about ladder support - Ladder is in - and back filled with gravel - Rocks and topsoil/compost added. Now, its ready for planting and track laying! more to come soon! -Brian
