Hi all, I'm just now getting into this scratchbuilding and kitbashing thing in G... and hopefully if I'm not outdone on the evilbay as many of you call it, I'll have a small LGB diesel switcher to start with, if not, then I'm gonna build one of my own. BUT my question is..where can I get a fan driven smoke unit(like Aristos or USA trains) without buying a full locomotive, and how do they to install? My other question is where could I find a sound decoder for a small diesel like I'm intending? I'm sure the engine sounds from one of the larger locos would be ok, but the horns are usually way too 'big' sounding for something like a 4 or 6 wheeled switcher.. help? :)
Aristo smoke unit - http://www.ridgeroadstation.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=25529311!255
I'm not sure what voltage it requires.
You can look into the sound unit from mylocosound - http://mylocosound.com/pages/mylocosoundhome.html . Its adjustable to get the sound you want but no bell sound. (Note - the maker is a member of G scale Mad forum and offers other members a discount - http://www.gscalemad.co.uk/ )

Any clue as to how the locosound unit peforms or actually sounds? I may just end up getting an Aristo or USA unit and using it with a smaller speaker for the smaller diesel, I like more prototypical operations, and without a bell, that's not really possible.. :P But if that one sounds good, for the price, I may get one to experiement with...
EDIT: Just how big isthat smoke unit, it doesn't list any size dimensions or show a comparision...
Would think if you email them for the dimensions they would glady send you the size.
Myself I like Phoenix Sound http://www.phoenixsound.com/
