Thanks. The railroad consists of around 250' of track, in a double-reverse-loop design that runs around the perimeter of the yard. A trackplan can be found by clicking here. (This may be "subscriber only" content, so you may need to log in.) It's actually not all that large by most standards, but with an average speed of around 10 scale miles per hour, it takes a full 6 minutes to make the loop. Truthfully, the video shows almost every bit of the mainline except the very ends of the reverse loops, mostly because they're not terribly scenic.

As for the editing, I did this at home, but I've got the same software here as I do at work (Avid XPress Pro). It's decidedly overkill for something like this. Windows MovieMaker or Mac's iMovie would be equally well suited. I will say that Avid's audio suite came in very handy for letting me sync the timing of the prototype's chuffs to the model's wheels. That's probably the only thing that the free software can't do.

I'm already putting ideas together for the next one. I've got to see if we've still got the lipstick camera at work, as I'd love to put that inside the cab of the loco and get an engineer's eye view. It's got to be tethered to a portable recorder, but that shouldn't be an issue. I don't have any tunnels.

Adding to the chorus of kudos, I would also say that the shifting of perspective from inside to external views coupled with the change in sound perspective enhances your video over the top of normal GRR fare to which we are accustomed.

This does raise the bar for others but the viewers win in the end.
