Pizza Pizza! Just arrived, hot off the delivery truck.
At the BTS Lewis Polk told me that Aristocraft was going to sell a 20" dia. circle of track (thats 20 INCHES, not feet ) for things like Christmas tree layouts or special display layouts to things like the Eggliner, I saw the circle on display at St Aubins booth, but I couldnt pick it up that weekend. When I recently decided to seek it out and having found nothing on St Aubins website I did a search and lo and behold found Wholesaletrains was offering it (and for less than I was quoted at the BTS to boot!) A quick order and...
Yesteray I got home and found to my delight my order arrived early, the track looks great! the tieplates are cast to fit this ubertight curve, and it comes with Aristos new track clamps that are very good. Its not a simple one piece circle, its 4 seperate quarter circle sections that when put together form a circle, but this also means that by adding a few straight sections, or mixing with regular R1 curves and track, some very tight and twisty mining or logging lines can be inserted into existing layouts, -or- COMPLETE layouts may now be built in spaces never before considered possible!!! The Microlayout guys are going to freak!
It Aristo part # ART11140 if your interested, Pics to follow as soon as I can
Have fun with your trains

Hmmm...just noticed this, it wasn't there when I ordered my circle

A/C is also offering a 31" circle of track for barrel installation, like the HLW setup. Hmmm yesss....things are looking up in the large scale microlayout world! I now have access to 48", 31" and 21" diameters,
Oooh the mind reals from the ideas...now if I can just get Lewis to make matching turnouts in those diameters
Vic,
Now you have to slow down on remodeling your house to get it right cause I know you want to be in a hurry to get it finished now......go play with your trains
Toad
Hi Vic
I can't wait to see what kind of propper layout you come up with now.
Sounds like you need SWMBO to sew you up some tent huts for that logging line
No pizza for now

That wernt no link, just painted my typwriter blue asking Mr. Vic for the link. He is the one who posted the link.
Twenty inch (diameter) circle: Link and thirty one inch (diameter) circle: Link
Vic: That means we can have a dual track MAINLINE on the desk top right next to the computer! Surfing the net AND driving the trains at the same time. Life don't get no sweeter! Now I gotta find a new place to put the printer!

Did any of the loco's protest a bit on those curves??
I hope aristocraft is going to make some small rolling stock for them extra sharp curves or there isn't going to be much to run on them
John
What about making you some short cars or even find some in single axle or do you like doubble axle?
Hi ToadFrog&WhiteLightning
Many a true word said in jest
Don't laugh there are or where actualy prototypes for single axel cars one off the top of my head is a DB bicycle car
Not sure what gauge but there was also a french narrow gauge car that only had one axel.
Both had two sets of legs similar to those on a semi trailer so they did not fall over when left on a siding.
Maybe we should try and talk Aristocraft into making them for there new extra sharp curved track .
A double side bogie bolster (coupler tag each side) to fit Bachmann or other brand of arch bar bogie could be handy for making cars that small.
Sorry John, Just read my post.....could I have been asleep? Yeah alseep posting
I ment like one axel in front and one in back besides what we see today with two and two axels.
Don't give Vic any ideas poor guy just has abunch of stuff to do. And I think you gave him a idea
Hi ToadFrog & WhiteLightning
Have you been at the Hot Chocolate again
Ah so you meant std & short 4 wheel cars AKA Hartland mini's or LGB FeldBahn stock as apposed to the more modern large cars with trucks.
I have the afliction pretty bad I don't care as long as it is a railway wagon or coach
I just wish Hartland would add a box car and coach to the mini range and fill the two glaring spaces in the range but then the LGB FeldBahn coaches look OK with the mini's.
Just you might have to go into kitbashing The "dark side" as Vic sayes!
Now, if we could have a WYE switch to go with that track!

Well I am surprized , the HLW Interurban car like the 09232 goes around the ART 11140 20" circle like a breeze , as well as the 4 wheel LGB locos and cars .
And the LGB New Orleans streetcar 20380 , goes around the ART 11145 31" circle just fine and quiet like .
Is there overhang , oh yes , but so did the real ones .
So the one car train , a streetcar or interurbans car , going around small curves , makes a small layout possible , and beliveable
Hi Dennis, thats cool stuff...
I asked on Gscalemad, I'll ask here also, how many track segments make up the 31" circle?
Got my answer , 4 segments

John, sorry thought I replied to you already,
One thing I found already, even the HLW minicars should have roller bearing wheels as there is a bit of drag due to the effects of the wheels on such short radius's, not a big deal with the engines as both axles push the engine along nicely. This drag is very noticable on the 20" track no such problems noted on my 32" diameter of track.
I'm considering building custom cars where the wheels are "bent" to match the curvature. However LGB cars that already have the pivoting wheels are A-OK, no mods needed
