Posted by Mr_Ash on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 5:19 PM

Just got woken up by my sister and her kid wanting to know why the train doesnt work...

So I roll out of bed not knowing what train there talking about and go downstaris and find they put the one Bmann Annie I got off ebay a while back on the tracks... headlight is on so its getting power and I tried running one of my big haulers and it works fine... The annie is dead though only the headlight and smoke unit seem to work doesnt make any noise just sits there Grumpy [|(]

I bought a ten wheeler a year ago of ebay and it appeared dead.  After taking it apart I noticed that a gear had cracked and was binding up the motor.  You may want to check that.

Its such a nice looking loco though and I just spent the last week or so detailing it more Disapprove [V]

I think I'll have a go at taking it apart to see if it can be fixed, I'd like to figure out how to take these engines apart anyway maybe I can fix it with parts from one of my big haulers Mischief [:-,]

This a pic of the loco from the auction, nothing newer lost the digital camera Dead [xx(]

Time to get a BBT drive for it. They're supposed to be bulletproof and will pull twice as much as the stock drive.

I have been thinking about that too but would have to wait untill after my trip in august due to the cost... Couldnt I just send it in to bachmann with $50 and have them fix it or can I not do that because I got it off ebay?

Bachmann will certainly fix it. I don't know about the 50 buck thing, but if yer payin, I don't think they care WHERE it came from. That might be the smartest thing to do until you can upgrade it.

well on there website under warranty info it says its $50 service charge for repair or replacement on large scale spectrum & annie loco's...

I didnt even think to check but I didnt leave a power supply hooked up to my Aristo basic TE last time I ran trains over the weekend...  When they told me that it didnt work I figured it wasnt plugged in but when i went down stairs and saw the the headlight was on I just ruled power out as the problem because it was getting power... I wonder what power supply my sister put on there! Shock [:O]

I know tell me about it lol! I have showed my dad how to hook things up and run trains because being retired he gets stuck watching my sisters kids more than I do but he is out of town this week and I didnt know she was bringing them over Tuesday and was in bed sleeping because I work nights during the week. I tried showing my sister a couple times before but its in one ear out the other with her lol her 2.5yr old son seems learn faster than mommy If I had left a power supply, controler and track connection sitting out in the open he would have been able to get everything hooked up but I didnt leave a power supply out and have no idea what they used...

Why couldnt the kiddo fry his own engine lol... Nooo its safe on the siding with the plastic rail joiners lol oh well atleast it wasnt the K27 Dead [xx(]

I have solved the problem here....did you say your sister is abit blight (blonde)? So buy her a New Blight train set with batteries all for her own!

Poor pops there, just tag everything and make a color coded all the way! But don't tell your sister! She might want to conect the dots and not color?!

LOL Toad she isnt a natural blond but you would think she is Tongue [:P]

I got the kid a LGB starter set for his 2nd birthday / christmas, they have it setup in a spare room of there new house. When he comes over I let him run a big hauler Durango & Silverton 177. Its great I put an extra fireman shovel on the back of the tender and when he stops the train he pretends to shovel coal and then will load & unload little crates and boxes from the boxcar and combine before shouting "All Abord!" and look all excited as the train starts up with that crapy electric chuff chasing it around the oval of track a few times before stopping it and doing it all again Big Smile [:D]

I dont know what the power supply is for but its from Gatway so either a monitor or a laptop, It says...

Output 19V then after that there is a solid line with 3 dashes under it followed by 4740 mA

What's that mean? Black Eye [B)]

It means the output was 19 volts DC with a 4.74 amp power rating. Have you tried the loco with a proper power supply and such? When you first apply power does it make any noises? Did you lube this Loco before it was put on the track? Have you checked the NMRA switch to make sure it's all the way to one position or the other?

ITS ALIVE!!!
Posted by Mr_Ash on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 1:45 PM

No noise what so ever, tried flipping the polarity switch back and forth a few times, trired the correct power pack nada... other trains run fine on the track at the same time all that this one does is light up (headlight forward & back when i change directions) and smoke (smoke unit when turned on)....

<<<UPDATE>>>

These engines really arnt very hard to take apart just had to work up the nerve to try! I swapped the lower half with a spare D&RGW 177 I picked up off ebay a couple months back for $50 I didnt want 445 to die first so it didnt....... Just need to get rid of the white wall tires Tongue [:P]

Bestest part of all is now that its a big hauler I can swap pilots with my other big hauler's.... Evil [}:)]

And ofcorse looken good at being spare parts... (Lights & Smoke still work!) Approve [^]

Please define    PROPER POWER SUPPLY

A 19 volt 4.7 amp is plenty for running an ANNIE with some sort of speed controller, afterall the sets come with the 7va power packwhich would be 14 volts at .5 amps or 18 volts at somewhat less amps and no filtering.

I run the Aristocraft Basic TE with a 19.6, 3.16 amp supply and have absolutely no trouble.  (old Compaq laptop supply).

Those discarded laptop power supplies are great to use with the trains.

PS the line and dots represent DC power output, AC output would have been the tilda (~) sign.

By Proper power supply I meant what ever power supply he normally uses.

Plow came from Ebay Black Eye [B)]

Seems to be made for big haulers, snaps right on the pilot and theres even a little notch where the tip of the cow catcher rests. I glued mine on and reinforced it with wood and lots of superglue. The pilot, cow catcher & plow are one solid piece now so mounting the plow on a diffrent engine requires the whole pilot to be removed kinda prototypical but IDK how well its going to do plowing snow

The couple pocket is fake I just chopped the mount off a kadee body mount coupler up and glued it in the pocket, the coupler still functions and works on straight track but it cant swing at all.. ah well... looks cooler than it did without a coupler Tongue [:P]

Checkn eBay now to see what else I can sell...... Mischief [:-,] I would try to sell your sis but she would go kicking and screaming I bet.

What type of training you guys get? Is it like police when I was in? Did SWAT (big joy, NOT), first responder, life light landing zone dude...etc.. Swat was thought buy a ex-jar head and I felt the song "In the Army again" roll through my bone head.

Nothing major just basic stuff, I am a first responder though... For the most part im just a Telephone Operator/Dispatcher with a badge Tongue [:P] This place is dull its a bar soap mfg plant. The two accounts I worked at before this one were more interesting. One was driving a patrol car around a sub division / golf resort that was kind of a headach lol and before that guarding an abandoned steel mill (used in the movie "Rudy") That place was creepy at night bit still a cool place

Hi Mr. Ash,

I had an "Annie" which came via an American dealer through to a UK seller.  It seemed to jamb after getting stuck on a switch. The reason was that the nuts securing the motion were loose.  This is, apparently, a common fault on Bachmann locos.

You may have checked this, but it is just a thought.  Anyway I hope you can get it sorted without too much expense and grief.

The seller changed it for me by the way as I had only just purchased it..
