Yea, I like having the plastic cover over the magazine when it comes in the mail.  I get the Milwaukee Railroader and it comes in a plastic cover.  I know that every time it comes in the cover, I will be getting everything that month.  Without the cover, who knows who else goes through my magazine.Shock [:O]

I subscribe to a few Kalmbach magazines. They usually arrive in time, the only problem I have is that they arrive damaged more often than not, I do wish Kalmbach kept the plastic cover sleeve on the magazines. The plastic reduced tears and rips that occur monthly with 2/3 of magzines, however Kalmbach stopped this as my guess as cost cutting measure. Thats my only compliant. Overall a good product to read.

Of course it is probably more efficient and profitable - after all they have the money up front Laugh [(-D] - for subscriptions to be encouraged.

I don't care for subscriptions: I prefer to go to a newsagents shop and get my magazines from them.  This usually means he stays in business and has other items in his store for me to buy.

Preferring this method has resulted in me getting Garden Railways and the sister magazine Classic Trains.  It is very doubtful that I would be taking either of them had I not seen them on a newsagents shelf.

Maybe I am lucky; I live on the edge of a town and I know many folk are "in the sticks" as we say, so shops are not an easy option.

I like the removable labels. I wish more magazines used them! I've been a subscriber to GR for two and half years, no problems so far.

Local postal service can vary greatly from place to place. Also, if you don't have a "regular" mail carrier in your area, the substitutes are often substandard. Several years ago we went through a lengthy period where we never had the same carrier for more than a few weeks at a time. Service was spotty the entire time. And last year, when our very reliable regular carrier was on vacation for a month, a lot of our mail never reached us -- including the annual bill for my health insurance and some other important stuff.

Sometimes I receive the shredded remnants of Garden Railways, Model Railroader, or Railroad Model Craftsman magazine in a plastic bag with a note from the U.S. Postal Service that it became jammed in a sorting machine in Phoenix.

Aman,

If you're regularly having problems with not getting your magazine, I suggest visiting your post office and talking to your Postmaster. A few years ago, we changed how we ship magazines to you. They are loaded into bundles (with other magazines) at the printer and driven to a regional postal facility. That way, the magazines are in the postal system for LESS time, decreasing the possibility of damage. However, we have no control of what happens to the magazines after that.

We keep track of all complaints and missing issues, and since the new way of shipping was started, complaints have gone down. Please, call us if you don't get your magazine, but I could also talk to someone at the post office. Most likely, you are not the only one in your area with the problem.

I've only had one missing magazine, a simple email had a new copy in the mail box about 3 days later.  My label arrived on somebodys womens health mag.  I got my GR mag but have no idea if she got her health mag (it was missing a labels too.)

People were complaing about the labels messing up the pretty cover pix, so they went with a glue that would allow the removal of the label so you'd be able to have the picture.

I'd rather get the mag in the first place and worry about the cover picture later!

Hey Toad, know what you're saying.   before they renumbered our county for 911 compliance we had RD box numbers.  Idiots in businesses and even the Post office didn't know the difference between a Post Office Box and a Rural Route Box.   They stuffed a 30 grand check that was coming to me in somebody's PO Box and that somebody trashed it cause it "wasn't their mail"!

I have serval friends who was in/are in postal service.

From the stuff they tell me there not to nice to your mail in 1st place.

2nd if it is a Magazine they figure you will not miss it.

3rd if you have a P.o. Box they could have thrown it wrong and other person trashed it

Myself I am lucky for now with the post office I have but more people moving in.

I haven't had any problems.  The problem may be with the Post office.  On a regular basis I have had bills not delivered and suxh.  The post office in my area has gone downhill.

I am from Canada and don't have this problem. I understand your frustration because it is a mag that I also enjoy reading. If enough complain, you will be heard. Regards, Dennis.
