Bachmann smoke unit?
Posted by SNOWSHOE on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 8:15 AM
I have the Big Hauler with the smoke unit that comes with the engine.  I use the smoke dropes (not sure what it is) that comes with the bachmann.  It smokes for a short while but not very long.  What else can I use to put in the smoke unit?  Can I use rugular oil that one would use for squeeky doors?  I ask this because I have an old Lionel from the 1950's and that is all I have ever used in the smoke unit for that engine.  It smokes great and for a long periods. The engine still runs to this day.

The smoke units on the Bachmann locos have never been their strong point. They work okay if cranked up to high voltage. The smoke oil is just a purified paraffin oil. Using something else is done so at your own risk Black Eye [B)]. If you want decent smoke you could replace it with an Aristo or MTH unit.
