Bachmann 2 truck shay binds in forward
Posted by Run the Town on Monday, April 28, 2008 1:26 PM

I recently bought a used 2 truck Bachmann 36 ton Shay that was already set up with sound/battery/R/C.  I ran it very little when I recieved it just to ensure all worked.  I had it bind up on me going forward.  The only way to get it to go (the gears) was to stop and then reverse.

When I say it binds, I am referring to the wheels still move, but the gears seem to bind or lock.  I have greased and oiled it and it seems to bind in forward only and only when it makes a turn or the elevation slightly changes.

Any ideas?  Thanks, Barry

My Shay did that when I first got it, and for the life of me I can't remember what was done to fix it.  It was very simple though.  Only took a couple of minutes.

Try giving the folks at Bachman a call, I'd imagine someone in their Tech. dept. or repair would be able to help you......

I had the exact same problem with mine, which turned out to be the linkages of the Shay cylinders jamming.  Solving the problem required some very slow running on elevated track and careful inspection to determine where it was jamming.  Some minor bending of a linkage cured the problem.

Thats a great idea cacole, I will try that.  I assume maybe shipping or even handling it has bent something?!  Barry
