Mark:

I've gotten a few pieces before.  They claim 1/2 inch scale (1/24) and what Ive gotten from them previously, the white wicker (wire) tables and chairs that now adorn Chateau de Vic, and look very much to be "in scale".  Some of my people at the Chateau are 1/22.5 and others are 1/20 but they all fit the chairs nicely.

Tom -- If that furniture is standard doll house size it's pretty large in comparison to the 1:20/22.5/24 Train building stuff.   Check Hobby Lobby  or some such place before stepping off and ordering.... might save you some grief....

Talk about "expansion".  Check out the thread called "New Blight as Yard Art".  I spent the day painting the smaller parts of the hotel.  Since I waited an hour between painting sessions to allow the paint to set up, I needed something to do.

It has been a very productive day today.

Glad to see that you, too, are expanding!  Looks like a good project!  Will have to take your tips seriously, as had glue adhesion problems on some of the buildings I have constructed.  After they fell apart by weathering a year or two, I reconstructed them using silicone and hot glue; don't know which is better over the long run.

Not sure I'll patronize the new hotel, Paris is a bit skinny for my taste!

The total for the stuff I've shown above is about a hundred dollars (US).

I'm looking at some of these items for interior furnishings. The kit comes with paper curtains that block out the ability to view inside the hotel. Since I plan on seeing inside the building, I'm going to need some furniture.

For the hotel bedrooms:

For the hotel lobby:

For the Saloon:

Construction Log:

Here is a good hint for all those who build those plastic structure kits, like Pola's Hotel California. A quick wash with paint thinner removes the residue of the compounds used to release the plastic from its mold. I wish I had been aware of this little tid bit when I built the Chalet. Since I did not care for the "baby blue" stones of the kit, I decided to change the color. Having used "Krylon Fusion" brand paint on other outside plastic and having it hold up very well, I decided to use this brand as a primer coat. Just prior to painting, my wife asked if I had cleaned the plastic first. I told her that "yes I had with warm soapy water." She told me that I needed to use paint thinner as well. The paint thinner cut through the white streak that I thought was nothing more than the blue plastic not being completely blended. Realizing that this was left over compounds used to release from the mold, I started cleaning every part of the kit. The rinse with paint thinner is also increasing the adhesion factor of the glue.

Having completed the color change, I've laid out" the design of the two buildings I'll end up with. I pulled out the second floor of the front wall of the hotel and the third floor side and rear walls, to form the basis of the second building. I'll probably use some sheet copper for the needed roof of the second building. SWMBO has promised to design some real curtains to hang inside the buildings.

If anyone else has "modified" this structure before, I would like to hear/see what you did.

New Hotel Plans Announced

24 April.

James Hilton, joined by his wife Hilda, and daughters Paris and Nickey, announced plans for a new hotel in downtown Rosebud Falls. Mr. Hilton stated that he had acquired the rights to the property now know as Bonnie's Veggies. He confirmed that he had been in negotiations with the City Counsel about the construction of the new hotel. The proposed hotel would be almost identical to the three-story hotel recently constructed in Denver.

When questioned about city code preventing construction of buildings in the downtown area of more than two stories, Mr. Hilton said he had conferred with local fire official and that the new hotel would indeed conform to local fire regulations. Daughters, Nickey and Paris said that if the new hotel was indeed restricted to just two stories that they would build their trademark Party Palace and Beer Hall on an adjoining lot to the hotel. Construction of the new hotel and saloon is expected to begin as soon as Bonnie's Veggies can be relocated to the other side of the railroad tracks.
