I repainted an LGB coach (3080) into business car B7.  I used Scalecoat II Tuscan Red (20122).  She used to be a grande gold coach, so I kept the silver roof.  Actually I swapped it's original roof (the old style with soot lines) with a newer coach roof that was all silver.  Neat trick was to mask off the D&RGW letter board and keep the original LGB lettering so I didn't have to redo it.  Did the same thing to our San Juan painted cars.

Here's a pic (thought I had a close up, but this is the best I could find):

Nice coach! Shock [:O] Nice part about the Bachmann J&S coaches is the roadname lettering is on the roof so you can just pop the roof off and paint the carbody without having to tape anything off.

Great Western if you want to get some idea's Durango & Silverton has a few parlor car's painted Tuscan red. Number 350 Alamosa, B-3 Nomad, B-2 Cinco Animas  and B-7 General Palmer

It would be interesting to know why Texas is in the same boat as we outside continental USA.  I can understand the overseas reasons but what have they against Texas - or is it something along the lines of Aristo having to put warning labels on their boxes in case they wind up in California?

I have three J&S Bachmann cars,(2 cars + combine) bought new with track supply lighting.  I have another set of 3 (same composition) but which I bought second-hand and are battery lit.

I am leaving the new cars in D&RGW gold colour with silver rooves (the colour in which they were  manufactured) but I intend to repaint the others a deep red/wine colour.  The rooves at present are black but I feel that that would diminish the appearance of the red.  Maybe they could be painted grey as a distinction from silver.  I am open to advice. Scalecoat II aluminum is a nice silver paint.  They also make silver.  I've only used aluminum so far.  Our scratch built Silver Vista used Scalecoat aluminum.  But I've only airbrushed with it.  They make it in a spray can (20476), but I'm not sure if you want to spend so much for paint.

Here's a link to Scalecoat paint (made by Weaver).  Note use Scalecoat II since the roof is plastic.  Scalecoat I is for metal/wood, Scalecoat II is for plastics.

You can buy direct or find it at your local hobby shop, if you have one and if they carry it.

Silver Paint for Roof?
Posted by Mr_Ash on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 10:39 PM

Need to repaint the roof of one of my Bmann J&S coaches whats the best kind of paint to use? Would prefer using some kind of spray paint as it would only take a couple minutes to just tape off the sides and bomb it, has to be able to hold up outside though.... and if possable being handled, never had much luck with silver paint in that department Black Eye [B)]

Last time I mentioned what type of paint I was using for somthing yall yelled at me lol so what should I use Big Smile [:D]
