Bachman with LGB

I was looking to purchase some passenger cars to customize. I would like to know if the bachman passenger cars Jackson Sharp would look correct with my LGB steam locomotive from a starter set?

If you are a "rivit counter", then don't do it.  If you are like me, anything close will work.  I use the same configuration of which you ask.  At certain angles and lighting conditions the starter set engine will look a tad bit short and squat, but to my general viewing audience it looks as if they belong together.

Thank you all  for the information. The photo of the two different cars together gives me a clear indication how they would look as far as size goes. I think I will probably get the Bachman cars. I will also stay with the steam locomotive I have for now. My future locomotive purchase  will likely be a diesel. I will need one to compliment my LGB  Sclair Hopper cars I recieved for Christmas. I know I will be mixing two different eras but that will help to make my display more interesting for me. Thanks again for the replies and the photo's

Can I put my penny worth in,  I would recomend a 4-6-0 stream loco if you are going to use Jackson Sharp Coaches  My lay out is running the W.P and Y.R so I find that that size of loco looks ok.. But remember the 6 foot rule if it looks ok from that distance then you should be happy with it

The Bachmann coaches are virtually identical to LGB's US-style wood passenger cars in terms of height and width, and just a bit longer--maybe by an inch or so if I recall, so they'll be quite in line sizewise with LGB's starter set loco (either the 2-4-0 which Brian mentioned, or the venerable 0-4-0 "Stainz"-styled loco).


Here's a photo GR contributor Bruce Chandler took of a passenger train on his line. The two end cars are Bachmann, the middle one LGB. I thought I had recently posted the dimensions of Bachmann's passenger cars, but I can't recall where, and I no longer have any such cars in my collection here to measure. But since everything in LGB's product line is built to virtually the same width and height (regardless of the prototype's size), everything looks fairly well-proportioned when running in a train. Depending on your perspective, that's the product line's greatest asset or liability. For what you want to do, it's a great asset.

The Bachmann Jackson-Sharp cars are 1:22.5 scale like most LGB equipment. I guessing you may mean the LGB 2-4-0 steam engine? It is probably a bit smaller than 1:22.5 being more of a standard gauge look (maybe 1:27 or so?) but should look fine with the Bachmann J-S cars. Also consider the Aristo Sierra cars as these are standard gauge, 1:29 models and a bit more modern than the J-S cars and a bit better fit.

I am not concerned about it being proto-typical I just want the size to be the same or at least close enough to work. I would be painting them and putting on new decals. If some one could measure the height of them for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
