the flanges on most of my equipment are too deep to clear the plastic section on the aristo stainless 10' switch. The #6 switch is made much deeper and no problem.
Has anyone ground down these plastic sections with success? is there another cure? (I can't ground the flanges on 60 plus cars)
Yup, I have 13 wide radius switches and ground down all the frogs even before I installed them. This is a pretty common complaint but once done the switches are pretty nice. Some use a file. I use a steady hand and a dremel tool with a little barrel shaped cutter (#9901) on it. I keep a wheel set handy while grinding as a depth gauge.

Brian - what wheel set do you keep handy? I have read where LGB flanges are larger than others. I have rolling stock with LGB metal wheels, San-Val ball bearing wheels, Bachmann metal wheels, Aristocraft metal wheels, and a USAT dismal (no USAT cars). Engines are from the same mfrs (excl San Val). I have always wondered if I ground down the frog channels for the deepest flanges, would that cause a problem for the shallower ones? Al
