LGB wide radius switch has an 4' radius, and Aristo wide radius switch has a 5' radius.  This makes for an interesting figure eight layout.

ok, thanks for the info.

I have a few aristo 5' radi turnouts.  I dont plan on replacing them, the LGB switches are pretty expensive.  I havent had any problems with my switches, and I have heard that clearing out the plastic frogs can eliminate several issues.

I have both LGB r5 and Aristo 10' switches on my RR, the Aristo are in the switch yard and the LGB are on the main line, they are superb and replaced the Aristo's. If you can fit them in I would recommend them.

Cheers,

Kim

If you're referring to Aristo's 5' radius (10' diameter) switches, there is no LGB equivalent. Their "R3" switch is just under 4' radius, and their "R5" switch is roughly 7.5' radius (15' diameter). Aristo's #6 switch is a bit wider than LGB's R5 switch.

So, switches in order of radius--

LGB R3 - 3.8' radius
Aristo - 5' radius
LGB R5 - 7.5' radius
Aristo #6 - not built to a specific radius, but nominally equivalent to around 18'

Aristo large turnout 10' equivalent in LGB

I am wondering what "R" of LGB turnout would be the same as the Aristo-craft 10' Large turnouts.

R-5's are larger correct or are the R-5's the right ones?
