LGB Forney Conversion

I have a late model LGB Forney (C&S) with front truck and rear truck with power pick-up. I have converted it to trailing car battery/remote operation by isolating the motor power rail pick-up and extending the rear truck power pick-up out the rear of the locomotive. While this works, I would really like to gain access to the boiler interior and the electrical board to be able to control lights remotely and beef up the motor power supply wiring. Removing the screws under the walkways on each side of the boiler does not seem to allow the motor and chassis to drop free of the locomotive, and I'm reluctant to force anything for fear of breakage. Calls to LGB of A refers me to the assembly isometric they have available, which has not helped. Any advice would be appreciated.
