LGB Switch Problem

Hey,

I'm using an LGB Transformer (5003/110) with 16 VAC and 7 VA for switching.

We're trying to hook it up to a switch with the code of 12050.

The switch only goes halfway, it doesn't seem to have enough power to "switch sides". 

Do we need a seperate 18 volt transformer?

We're sort of new with setting up LGB switches.

Help would be very appreciated.

A CDU works much better, can throw up to 10-12 switches at the same time, and will NOT burn up your switch machine. I believe they can be used on the LGB switches...I may be wrong. I KNOW a CDU works on Peco On30 switch machines, because that's what I use. I use manual switches on my large scale stuff. Maybe someone else can be a bit more help.

Did you meter it?

Did you meter the slide?

Did you check your slide for obstructions?

Does it move freely with hand?

Can you move another switch on the line with the unit?

Mod might be bad if old track, known to happen.

Test it by it's self on a test bench?

 Did you ever get this figured out? I'm working on expanding an old starter set with the same transformer and wanted to know if a new transformer will be needed to control the new switches.

You need more than a switch and a transformer, and I offer the following since I do not see you mentioning a controller

 What is being used for a control?

The transformer output is A/C for accessories.

The EPL switch drive is a DC motor and needs a diode to control direction of the throw.

Lgb markets a control box that operates 4 epl drives, and a separate booster unit.

Aristocraft has the 55474 and 55475 remotes at 27mhz for controlling either 2 or 5 epl drives, or the Arsito dricves.

 

You can add a momentary switch and diodes to control the switch.

 If you have the appropiate control unit, then I have 2 reasons the switch does not work properly.

1. motor jumped the gear inside.

2. Switch not level and jams.

 

To check #1, can you manually get the switch with the epl drive to travel all the way?  A jumped gear will not allow you to do this, but an uneven switch will work manually.
