Big train for a little price
Posted by Jon French on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 6:36 PM
I was at hobby lobby today picking up some balsal wood to start on a shack for my On30 layout and I saw a Bachmann Big Hauler Pennsylvania passenger set for $179.99. I had been thinking of getting one for around the tree this year but couldn't justify the price really. I thought to my self that it seemed like a pretty low price so I went home and looked it up, seems to be going for around $250-300 on the online stores and $190-230 on ebay. I checked the Hobby Lobby website and they had a 40% off coupon today so I went back and picked it up for $113.97 out the door.

It's a pretty neat train but definatly cheap in quality. The steam function doesn't seem to work though, I will take it up there in the next few days and see if they will swap it out.

Still great price. Always good to shop around and then find a money off...that is a plus!

That's less then what I paid ( $125.00 ) in the 90's when it was at COSTCO. very good deal hope you have fun with it. Mine is still in the box, Gave away the Track.

The head is gray, hands don't work , back is weak, legs give out, eyes are gone, money go's and my wife still love's Me.

Jon,

The smoke on the big hauler has never worked that well. You need to run it with the power cranked all the way up for awhile and don't put too much oil in the reservoir (6-8 drops only). Don't expect too much out of it even then.

Awesome, the smoke works now, thanks alot. I just didnt turn the power up enough I guess. I usually keep my trains at a nice slow crawl so it looks like the smoker will get swapped out for a new one soon enough

The last (only) Bachmann set I bought was an RGS 4-6-0 freight at CostCo for $85.

I am out of the purchasing phase.

I have more stuff than I'll ever use.

If I need something, I make it.
