I'll bet you-all know what the next question is going to be....Didn't someone do a piece on building wooden mine cars that would go with the Porter at one time or another?  Anyone with any ideas?  I know you can buy them, but I'd like to build a few along with a couple of short mine flat cars!  Any suggestions?

Brian,

Once again, thanks for all the help!  Could not find the instructions he talked about in the modeling section.  As I said earlier, the forum only goes back to July and August.  the pictures do help however!

Yes, those are LGB and that's the extent of my knowledge of them.

Bachmann also makes a different, more modern porter.

Older versions were 1:22.5 and now there is a Spectrum 1:20.3 version. I have heard good things about the new one and have considered adding it to my stable even though I really don't model that scale.

Nice job Brian!  The second post is the one!  Thanks!  Now, can you tell me the correct description of the unit?  I mean is it an LBG 0-4-0 Porter or are there other correct was the original manufacturer refered to it as.  The reason I ask, is I have inquired about the Porter and the answer I keep getting is which one?

Brian,

That sounds like it could be the one, but as I stated to Jim, the post is no longer in archives.  I seem to remember that Toenailridge did one also sometime back, but I can't be sure.  thanks for the help!

Jim,

Although you have done a good job of it, your porter is not the one.  sorry!

I checked Mylargescale for the post from January and the Beginners forum archives only goes back to July and August.  The post I'm looking for showed the Porter in an aged almost copper look to it if I recall correctly.  The bumper was unusually wide with details from Ozark Miniatures such as chains, clevis hooks, etc.  That is if my memory serves me correctly!  Thanks for the help!

There was a nicely done one that was posted over on mylargescale.com around January this year. It was posted in the Beginners forum I believe. The builder lived in PA and hand entered it in the model contest at the ECLSTS in York this spring.

Allen,

I'm sure this isn't the Porter you are refering to, but, here is a picture of my porter.  The weathering on the boiler and forward was done by a friend.  I added detailing to the whistle, bell, and bumper and replaced the cab with a Lionel cab using real split wood in the Forney fuel box.

0-4-0 Porter Bash
Posted by Steam1800's on Sunday, September 2, 2007 9:27 PM
I seem to remember someone doing an LGB 0-4-0 Porterr bash last year sometime, but I can't seem to find it in the archives.  It was the one that had been weathered with a new front bumper and such.  Can anyone assist me in finding that posting?
Allen
