Installing Aristocraft Reversing Unit

The Aristocraft rerailer is multi-purpose.

 

It can be a rerailer if the shim and washers are placed  on the bottom to close the gap.

 

FOR THE REVERSING UNIT, THE DIODES GO ACROSS THE TRACK GAP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RERAILER. 

 

No need to isolate a rail if the diodes are on the bottom of the rerailer unit.

 

I prefer to use the diodes on my regiular track, and use the rerailer as a rerailer outdoors.

I have received some answers for which I thank you very much.  But let me clarify with a little more detail as to what is confusing to me.

I have the instructions that came with the unit but still need help in understanding what to do.  There are 2 pieces of track with a gap in one rail.  I think I place one piece of track at each end of my point to point....making sure that the gap is on the same rail.  What I'm unsure of is where the 2 diodes and 2 thin small brass 'spacers' go.  They are in a small plastic bag.  The 'spacers' are one inch long by 1/4 inch wide and are very thin with a short 'slot' at each end.

The instructions say "Install an insulating rail joiner at the rail gaps"....which I think I understand.  The next step "Solder the diodes in place across the rail gaps".  Now I'm not sure what this means.  Does this mean on the rail opposite the insulating rail joiner AND on the same side as the gap in the rail at each end?  If so, what are the 2 brass 'spacers' like items for and how do I use them?

I'm sure when it's all done and running I will wonder why I didn't get it.  But as I said, Im electronically challenged.

The only important thing to watch is that the gaps on the rerailing plate are on the same rail,left or right, with your power leads from the reversing unit attached any where in between, extremely simple to wire up, I have one in use and they are perfect for a Trolley Line or similar.

I just found this forum the other day and I have had fun reading all the good stuff on it.  My wife and I are in our 70s. and have thoroughly enjoyed the past 2 years that we have been outside in our Garden Railroad.  We have nearly 500 feet of track with a number of switches. etc.  Recently bought an Aristocraft 11090 Reversing Unit, unfortunately do not know how to hook it up.  The instructions are not that clear.  It came with 2 diodes and 2 small brass 'things' in a plastic bag.  I do not know where they should be installed.  My track is all LGB brass track.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  (please keep the directions simple, as I am electronically challenged).
