Bachmann 3 truck shay question
Posted by sawdust on Sunday, August 26, 2007 9:19 PM

 Hi,

I would like to purchase Bachmann shay and I haven't seen on the forum much talk about the 3 truck shay.  I currently run Bachmann 4-6-0s and LGB Moguls all on Airwire and batteries with Phoenix sound.   The 2 truck seem to be popular but I am looking for more room for batteries and sound.  Does any one have any experience with the 55 toner?

  Thanks Allen

There is a comprehensive review in GR a couple of issues back you should read.

Make dang sure you follow the link provided to this site that shows the wiring "procedure".

Secondary to that, the three-trucker takes more power than a 2-trucker.

And, experience has now shown, you put the batteries in the water bunker (third truck) to power the throttle and sound in fuel bunker (second truck), not any pair of wires in the 8-pair harness will handle it.

Smoke.

You need to wire in a pair of heavier wires for that function.

I use Super-Flex.

Other than that, same trucks as on the 38-ton Shay, just one more, and the third trucks is NOT supposed to pivot under the water bunker as shown in the video.

I can tell you how to do it, takes maybe 5 minutes, but it's permanent, and you won't be able to back up.

Buy the one without the Quasinami and add your own sound.

You will be happier (like, no 21V shutdown, and you will have chuff triggers).

Thanks, I prefer Phoenix sound and the 3 truck shay sample sounds great.  I generally strip out most of the wiring any way and rewire the power with heaver wire.  I switch the smoke units because, not that fond of white smoke and the power they use.  I have all the GR issues but guess I missed review.  Probably before I was interested.
