I would say they are 1:22.5. The cars are nearly identical to Bachmann big hauler cars.

Buddy L's are supposed to be in the 1/22.5 camp. The cars are Bachmann Big Hauler clones which are 1/22.5.

The loco itself is big, and it could pass for a small 1/20.5 engine. Yet its nominally a 1/22.5 engine, no specific prototype.

What scale are the new Buddy L trains?

My husband received a Buddy L train set as a gift.  The set comes with a 2-6-2 locomotive, tender, 3 cars and a caboose.  The locomotive is about 18" long (not counting the couplers), 5" wide and 8.5" tall.  The box says it is "G Scale" but is it 1:20?  1:24?  1:29?  1:32?  Or, some other scale?    Thanks for any help you can give me with this question.
