Activating crossing signal lights
Posted by GP-9_Man11786 on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 8:08 PM
I have a set of crossing signal flasher I want to wire up. I was wondering how to activate them and thought a photo sensor imbeded in the track would do the job. A friend of mine who instals alarms gave me a couple of reid switches, but I fried them all. I appreciate any help.

This can be done a number of ways but don't forget you need to deactivate tham too.

Trackside contacts, magnetic reed switches or detection devices; is your layout bi directional like mine, if so you may be restricted to detection devices!

I wired a crossing light, for an associate of mine, using the RamTrack light activated switch RAM117. The price appears to be reasonable. Other than a satisfied customer, I have no other affiliation with this dealer.

Take a look at <http://www.ramrcandramtrack.com/index.html> for more details.

The crossbuck was originally fitted with 16V incandescent "flashers" which we replaced with 5mm super bright LEDs and the required 1k series resistors. Power for accessories on this particular layout being from a small 12V car battery.

I hope this may be of some assistance.

I used a set of road crossing signals from a company called "Realroad" and they are activated my magnets under the track and on the engines and cars .
