This is the first section of a downtown. To the left of the building will be a general store. This will not be the final placement of the structure, but rather these are only pics to show the structure...

As the project matures I will be changing out these pics under the same name and web location. Feel free to download the images in your computer. Please comment on these structures and suggest ideas...

Thank you,

I am driven by such commentary. The next section will be a few weeks in finishing.

Thanks Matt,

The fence will come later. I have employed the local kids as security. I guess the call of the rails was just too strong.

Captain
Nice work! Went to the East Coast Large Scale Show yesterday with my wife. She has been all over me to build a building for the railway. At the show she threatened to buy a building that made hair stand on end. I placated her by promising to make one. Today I bought some time by showing her a "cute" caboose I would build. It's been nearly five years since I started my railway and I have yet to make a building. If the lettering in this post has a slightly green tinge you will realize just how jealous I am.

Ian,

Thanks much. All this approval will help me make haste on the General Store. No need for the "worshiping smilie," the structure (if you could make a close examination) is like a painting...the flaws are best see close up.

Again, thanks.

Thank you,

The positive feedback I'm getting is "shoveling coal" into my metaphorical locomotive. Friday I'm off to Corpus Christi to pick up supplies for the next project.

I would say wok on both projects. Start a simple structure while you build your item of rolling stock. When you break from the caboose project, do a bit more work on the building. Thus, the wife will see you figuratively "laying tracks" in her direction whilst you reach your goal.

Capt Carrales,

I really like your building. I have little skill or experience building, so my Wife has come upon what I think is a unique way to add buildings that have a duel purpose. She finds bird houses and bird feeders that sort of look like they are buildings. In the winter they feed our fine feathered friends and the rest of the year they provide whimsical buildings for the rail road.
Thank you, Jaime

I have often considered Birdhouses, excellent idea. The current structures you see are not difficult to make, I found the the best teacher was simply "doing it." Strangely, when something is not working...it can often been worked at until it looks right.

Thansk for the kind words,

Nice job Capt. [4:-)]

For a "simple" job it looks great. Wish I had the talent to do that. But I leave the woodworking up to my wife.

Way to go Capt.

When i say simple, I mean that I begin with a simple shape and work the details from there. It is not based on a prototype structure, but on what I imagine could be. Saddly, they cannot be left outside. I will have to set them up when running due to the simple nature of construction.

I will be trying to get rid of one early practice structure for an indoor layout. E-mail me for details...I wi***o respect the forum and leave commerce out of the on-line equation. I will make a good deal since it is made of foam core board, it was a practice. As I said, its good for an indoor set. If fact, it could be a good fixer-upper.

Capt,

The building looks great. It's very similar to what will be the first building I plan on building for my layout. My local community has an area of town refered to as Old Town. A lot of the structures date back to the late 1800's. I picked on building to be my first. It's small and looks to be an easy build. I don't know what the building started life as, but the last paint job it had, it seemed to be an emigration office.

Some day I'll actually get some work on it done.

The building looks great, kinda like the old saying "you never how easy something is until you try it" I can assume this is the first of many custom buildings for you layout?

Looking forward to future edifaces. [8D]

Your kind words are great pearls of encouragement. In fact, I began work on the General Store becasue of the encouraging sentiment form this forum.

I would love to see your works when completed.

Thanks,

Vic,

I have named a portion of the line after you. I think I will name the General Store I'm building after Phil Creer, I will make a sign that reads P. Creer Mercantile Co. Eventaully I plan to do so for all my works, name them after some bloke from the forum.

Phil's designs have greatly influenced these structures, thus I will give him the homage. I still need to think of something for Ian J. Brown, Ian of England and Troy Betts...they are my nxt victims...honorees. Everyone else, I hope can with. There will be many years of this to go.

Capt, some suggestions

Ian Brown's Surf shop Castle and GO GO Bar[:p]

Ian of England- perhaps a station with travel service[;)]

Troy Has to be a Tram, so hows about a single stall tram shed and tram to run local pedestrian transport in town[:D]

Excellent suggestion. I like this trend of calling our British friend "Ian of England." It has a nice ring to it! I hope he approves!
