Weatherwise, A Perfect Weekend for Trains

Lots of times here in South Jersey this time of year it's hot, hazy and humid. But this weekend turned out to have beautiful weather. [8D]

Although I took time out to head to the beach, I also ran trains too in the evening. Here's my Hartland Mack pulling a short string of LGB gable-bottom field railway cars. My Jack Russell terrier Cassie in the background likes to join in the fun too.

Looks good Bill! Way up here in Central Jersey the wx is great too. Got some quality time with "Mimi" and as the sun went down I enjoyed a close-in airshow featuring Bats!

Hi guys,
Perfect weekend here in the UK as well. Saturday it threw it down with rain which was ideal for softening the ground for Sunday, which was glorious and it enabled me to get in more track. I have now got about 20' in and I am building the track bed up between housebricks. On a curve near the house I had put a load of soil in for a flower bed and left it nice and level. Got up this morning to find that a critter has been in and dug the whole patch up, together with a good bit of ballast. A few chewed up worms around so I'm thinking fox or perhaps even badger - I'll have to stay up one night and see what's around.

Great railway you have there! Not a lot of space needed for a whole lot of fun. Right on. Our weather has been rather cool. Then rain...then more cool. 28C today though! Sunny and hot for the week. Better get at my very neglected yard. WEEDS! Now where's the roundup at??? Later eh...Brian.

A perfect weekend would mean I didn't work at all[V].. Or Bman could have drove his father's day layout to Ohio and parked it in my back yard, then I could say I had a layout. There is room for it Bman....HONEST[:D]

Your layout looks great and i am glad you had a nice day, here on the Sunshine Coast it is mid winter temperature has dropped 10 degrees celsius overnight and a miserable max of 26 deg Cel. However true to its name the sun is shining as it does everyday so i guess you can't have everything.

However here is a general criticism, I think you should be more circumspect in your outlook. This is an international forum and the last time I looked South Jersey was part of an island in the English Channel and yet your location appears to be in the USA. So if you live in New Jersey, with the capital at Trenton you should have said so.

Its lookin Great,Im glad you had good weather, it sure makes you feel good when you can get alot done and sit back and relax with some trains running!!!

can you tell me what plants you are using? I have alot of hot mid day sun,so i have to be carefull what i plant, but i do have a side that is shaded by the house so thats a good thing.

Jeff, closest to you in the picture around the white building is creeping jenny, a ground cover that will really take off unless you control it.

The spiky plants at left are several types of lillyturf, which is not exactly scale but it looks good for much of the year, is drought resistant and can handle sun and shade.

Another ground cover I use is ajuga, which can handle sun or shade. In the spring it has nice spiky flowers and is easy to grow.

I live in South Jersey about 50 miles southeast of Philadelphia if that gives you an indication of the climate. The temperature can range from 0 to 100 degrees F.
