Place to run my Dash 9 live diesel
Posted by HeavyFreight on Friday, October 3, 2008 1:16 AM
I am currently converting an Aristocraft Dash 9 (1:29th scale) to live diesel and will soon need a place to run it. Those of you familiar with diesels this large know that it requires a minimum of an 8 foot radius to operate.  I live near the Richmond, Va area and would like to find a place within 2-3 hours of the Richmond area.

Look up Jim Stapleton in Purcellville, VA. He hangs out over on MyLargeScale.com under the name "Dr. Rivet." Here's a link to photos and video from his fall steam-up. Purcellville's a few minutes west of Leesburg, so I'm guessing a bit over 2 hours from Richmond.

Good luck with the project, and by all means post photos!!!

HeavyFreight,

I have two SD45s that I want to double head and I am also looking for a place to run.  I live in Fredericksburg, VA. so if you find a place to run let me know and I will do the same if I find a place.

HeavyFreight

   Hello,

Trying to figure out how to add pictures from my desktop.

Easy,NOT you can not add picture's from your desktop directly to this fourm. You must use a web picture housting site. I use photobucket, one picture at a time. I have posted way to many picture's on this site, so here's one more

 Thanks to altterrain and dwbeckett,

More photos to come. A gearbox,  fuel tank and electronics are to be included in the next stages.

 Toad,

This is an O.S. FS 30,  4 stroke engine. This engine is typically used in model airplanes, but some RC cars now use 4 strokes as well.  This engine burns a mixed RC fuel (methanol and castor oil).

for more information on the motor you can go to www.towerhobbies.com

Let me know if you have more questions

You going to vent the muffler at the stack?

Seeing it is a four stroke do you still have to do the glow plug thing? And if so how will you start it if the shell is down?

 Toad,

Yes, I will run the exhaust to the stack.  I plan on using the stock exhaust manifold and muffler that came with the engine. But I will run flexible hose from the muffler to the stack.

Yes, I will have to deal with the glow plug.  I plan on starting it with the shell off, because I will have to connect a power source to the generator to get it to turn over the engine.
