Did I Dream This? A Bachmann 1:20.3 Spectrum K27 2-8-2 Locomotive, This Year?

I'm going crazy or I dreamed this, A Bachmann Spectrum 1:20.3 K27 2-8-2 D&RGW Locomotive that is coming out this year? someone please tell me this is true, a locomotive that looks as good as a AccuCraft loco at half the price.... Am I crazy or am I asleep? it is to be released by DEC 2007? Where was I at when this was going on? If it is true I will have one on my list this year....

You must be dreaming, it's not a K4. Now a K27 may be due out by Dec. 07

Do you have any idea how big a 1:20 K-4 would be?

You do know that standard gauge 1:20 track is.......well, 2.783" for 4' 8-1/2" gauge, as compared to the 1.777" gauge we use for 3' narrow?

Close enough to 1" wider track.

You'd need tunnel portals the size of trash cans.

And all new track and turnouts.

And control systems capable of a whole lots more amps.

As others have pointed out the Bachmann K-27 (notK4) 2-8-2 will hopefully be out in December.

I had the opertunity to test out the pre production sample on my railroad and it sure ran great.

There are apparently a lot more detail to be added by the time it hits the shelves.

Its a big locomotive and it does require more clearance then anything else I have run in the past.

... Brainfreeze, I wonder what radius of curve you will have to have to run the K27 on? does anyone know?

I cannot tell you your answer -but at Gauge 3 the most famous UK 2-8-2 locomotive "**** o' the North" would require 16 feet radius curves for slow running and 20 feet plus for std running.

Yes David, I am still slowly, but surely -building my lengths of Gauge 3 track.... Interestingly enough despite being over 100 years old -Gauge 3 is another scale/gauge combination (like SM32,SM45 SEn2), that does not exist in the NMRA specs(!)

I can not find anything on the engine other than a few pic's on some store's websites, Even Bachmann site show's nothing on the loco....

As long as one understands that Gauge 3 is NOT 1:20.3 standard gauge.

It is 2-1/2", versus almost 2-3/4", and non-compatible.

There is a reason the nmra doesn't support it with the scales they do support.

That said, everyone around here is using Gauge 3 for their "standard gauge" as parts (like wheels) are available far less expensively and more readily available.

I like it, it works.
