Maybe it will wash the trash and debris left over from Katrina away so we can move on with the rebuilding.

Well, the waters of the gulf is warm. Dean will get strong.

I think Dean will pass to south of Cuba and then turn north just off the Yucatan and hit into Texas or LA and eventually north or west. We are very hot here in arkansas and remember the heat before Katrina arrived.

If Dean is turned before Cuba she will hit Florida or into Ga.

I dont see any reason for Dean to hit the eastern seaboard this time but only the Lord knows what it will do.

Well I just payed the ol'surance agent a visit today, an up'd the coverages a bit, I hope Jimmy if'en he's a name, and Dean both hit here square on, so's I can collect and get outta here.

Ain't got the woman around to ask me to stay this time, I'll just get in a nice motel or at a friends house an ride it out......I'm in a mobile.

When it's all over, I'll just call the appraiser, an let him handle it all, don't never plan to deal with an insurance company ever again by myself, ain't a one of'em honest.......been there.....

Byron

Hey Bill/Frog,

The perfect accessory for the keg, Hartland Planter Kit. If the water gets to deep the keg will float, oughta be empty by then, and the train can keep on goin'. Whistling [:-^]

WHen greybeards start to roll past my front door I know then that we are all a-fixing to stand between perdition and the deep blue sea.

Otherwise I dont worry about it. If winds are supposed to get above 100, we usually relocate elsewhere in the mountains for a few days. After all the building code says the house needs to withstand 80 mph gust for 3 seconds... anything over that becomes an insurance problem.

Hurricanes and Noreasters are a staple of life where I grew up and it is not a problem. Katrina gave us a feeder band that ripped our area for 30 minutes and I sware that rain was "Upwards", not sideways or down.

Now the elders still tell stories about storms past with a gleam in thier eyes and try to scare the wee ones with stories of shrieking wind and tearing roofs.

It's the tornados and the scream of the air raid siren that gets us moving with some haste.

Let it rain, let it blow and the girls thier cradle blankets to tear. =)

Erin just gave us the "bad" side but some of our members in San Antonio & Corpus Christi got the brunt. Hope our members are ok!

Sounds like Erin petered out pretty fast, lot of rain & some flooding I read, but overall it came onshore far weaker than it could have. Lets see what happens next with Dean, sounds like its going the come straight into the gulf and thats never good.

   Have fun with your trains

Houston sits close to sea level and every time the dew drips in the morning, the city floods. You gotta have a Texas sized problem or none at all. =)

You think by now they would have figured out how to deal with these things.

Im worried sick that the Dean will turn around the back side of Cuba and hit New Orleans all over again.

Water in yard....not a biggy though cause it does drain well.

Yeah there was a dubble or tripple hitter back in 04'.

I feel the lowest place is what they in Galveston call the strand 1' above sea level if my ole brain remembers what the marker said.

Insert:

Weather Underground

into your browser, They do a much better job using the NOAA data including current near-time hurricane hunter aircraft data.

Florida can forget this one. Texas, ye have a monstor. Earlier today the GFDL Model had it coming into Arkansas as a 50 knot storm, but 168 knots before landfall somewhere near NO to the west. Before that one, the earlier model has it at 144 knots into NO proper.

Now the new model animates the storm to hit into Houston/San A. It changes several times a day so we are not going to know for sure what this thing is going to land on... it seems to be staggering towards Jamacia and growing insanely fast.

I for one would like to see this thing hit into the Mexican Mountains and get ripped apart.

Have not tried that one SV.

Yeah, as my gut would have it feeling it's coming and very HARD!

In AM will be placing up window coverage because this year we got 2  different types that are plastic (Storm Busters & other can not remember). They seem way better than wood/tape but there $$$$.

At any point we will either get a direct hit or the dirty side of the storm, my heart sinks (and for alot of things in this state) when I know of the clean up I've done before and helped others clean up. And with this illness I am not "fit" enought and I know that but must go on. At 35 yrs old I should be able to do many things...

ok I am rambling again......Frog from the Swamp

Well, so far it looks like Texas will dodge this one. However Accuweather shows the projected path as crossing Mexico and emerging into the Gulf of Ca as a low pressure center. Depending on what kind of strength remains that could make for an interesting event. The waters of the Gulf of Ca is almost like crawling into a hot-tub, if memory serves me correctly the last time a hurricane came up the Gulf it essentially killed the railroad that John Spreckles, sugar baron, was/had built between SD and Yuma.
