I received my new sound system from Electric RR today. I can credit this company with very fast shipping. After taking off the shell of my power unit I decided to first try it out in the non-power shell. The Williams puts a ton of stuff in a small space and I didn’t want to go through all the work prior to testing it out.
Since this engine has a lighting system it was a straightforward assembly. I placed the speaker in the protective cover and used some hot glue to attach it to the frame. Next I took the circuit unit and did the same adding just a little more to keep the electronics off the body.
After that I connected the speaker wires and then made the proper power connections. I just spliced into the existing wire. The total time was under 10 minutes.
Well I am happy with the new sound system, however it sounds no different than the Williams sound system at half the price. I’m just glad I didn’t go through all the work to place the sound system in the power unit.
I was hoping for better but got the same sound. I’m not totally disappointed since the kit was complete and very easy to install. So I’m still looking for a better sound system for the power unit.
Does Electric RR make stuff for DCS control or do I have to go to MTH?
I don't want to add TMCC.

Can I place a Sound Commander 2 system, in this too?

I have done a few Electric RR conversions, but the only one with sound is a buddy. I like the sound but don't have a clue if it sounds like a real RDC or not. Jon is a heck of a nice guy to deal with, solved a few problems over the phone for me.
It is from a new Williams this year. You can have it, just give me time to receive the new sound system and place it in the engine. Just PM me your address and give me a few weeks to get this all done.
It has the bell and horn and each works with a different button.
Like I said you can have it = FREE.
Revovo PRR,
I could use another True Blast 2 diesel horn, does it have both the horn & bell? My new units have both the horn & bell feature and need two separate control buttons to work. Bought them from a Williams distributor here in south Florida.
My new MTH sounds week for a whistle compared to the new True Blast 2 systems I just purchased.
I looked at the units on the website, a lot more expensive than the Williams True Blast 2, I only paid $24.00 for diesel horn sound kit with the speaker and electronics board. Not trying to convert you to TB2 just stating the prices compared to Electric RR, twice the cost of a Willaims unit plus shipping.
Any way you should be able to install those units if you get a little creative with the speaker, not too much room in a GP-9, wiring is not that hard just have to adapt the wire connectors to work with Williams or other wiring, splicing of wires may be involved.
I have an older GP-9 powered & unpowered two unit that I added Williams True Blast 2 diesel sound system to and like it better than the older horn only sound unit. The True Blast 2 may not fit in a powered unit or you may have to mount the speaker in a verticle position.
If you have knowledge of electrical wiring should be no problem to add a sound system to an unpowered unit just tap into the positive and negative wires. I have two SD-45 diesels that are powered and added an extra unpowered unit that I put a True Blast 2 diesel sound system inside and run it between the two powered SD-45's with a wiring harness for a remote control car, has quick disconnects, that I bought from a local hobby shop
