Prewar tech help!
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 20, 2003 7:17 AM
I was hoping some one could give me some info on replacing bearings in prewar motors. I have done just about every other repair. There are about only ten of my rare birds this needs to be done to. I could just reach in the train box and swap out the motor but thats not me. I operate and maintain my own trains.(everyone must be able to run the rails or its back to the round house) It dosen't get any better than a cup of coffee on a sunday morning and a prewar train rollin the rails. Well the layout calls, hope someone can help. (maybe I'll solder the new bearings in??) Thanks Steve

I've never had to replace a pre-war motor bearing, but perhaps epoxy or JB Weld might work.

Thanks for your response Robert. I think the best way to get these wheel bearings replaced is to just solder the new ones in. I was hoping I would get a response from some operators of prewar engines. These old trains, after 70 years plus,do get sloppy. They all seem to get new axels and wheels but not bearings. Sooner or later I'll find the correct way to complete this task. Again, thanks for your response and have a Happy Holiday. Steve
